Driving like a moron on the edge of River Oaks

Doesn't consider that there might be cops in the area
I think I was probably driving about how many on here drive on occasion. Does everyone on here always come to a complete stop at every stop sign when there's no one around (aside from well hidden cop)? Surely no one on here ever goes 10mph over the speed limit on a wide open road when trying to get to a meeting on time.

This wasn't a cop on crime patrol. He was tasked with generating revenue for the city. The last thing on his task list for the day was fighting real crime.

"Everybody does it!"

I heard that excuse today from a supposedly grown man. You should lead with that!

"Wide open road"

You were on a surface street ITL. You chose poorly and lost. Take the loss. Lawyer up or pay your fines and try to make a better decision next go around.

Have you tried leaving earlier?

Look, I'm just not a complete nerd ok? I like to break the law from time to time when it suits me.

And I am willing to consider cheap and legal means to get out of having to pay $600 for such minor crimes.

Sorry I'm not a complete square who never goes 1mph over the speed limit
The problem with these kinds of situations is that they usually will only let you take DD for one offense per year. You can ask for the ability to take it for both offenses and the judge may or may not grant it since both were from the same traffic stop. I had one where they got me for three (speeding, tailgating, and changing lanes without a signal). The tailgating and lane change without a signal were me trying to get out of the way of the cop because he came roaring up behind me in the left lane on I-10 with no flashing lights or siren, and I was trying to get out of the way to let him go by. It wasn't until I made the lane change that he slowed down, moved over behind me, then turned on his lights. I ended up doing DD for the speeding ticket and requesting deferred adjudication on the other two. The judge did 6 months on the deferred adjudication and after 6 months without another ticket, it was off my record. I had to pay a court fee for each offense, but it was far less than the fine would have been and it kept any of the three from showing up on my insurance.

It just got serious.

He busted out the "orders of magnitude" line. You know the thread is ramping up when we finally see that term arrive.

That sucks. Hope you tracked that cop down later.

That's only if the cop doesn't show up. If he's a high-volume ticket cop, you'll be there a while.
Not true.

It's true. I was in court in February for a bogus ticket.

For those who did not have a cop show up, they were dismissed quickly. Everybody else had to wait for the cop to come to the court room to start working through the charges. I got out right before lunch.

Was this on your own or with traffic attorney? I have never had to wait very long at all in hearings that they had pushed back and scheduled for me.

Naw man, he was just doing his job. I was told by a friend that was HPD at the time that the traffic guys were being pushed to only pull people over when they could write multiple tickets. Supposedly the reason was that the city got a bigger cut if you weren't able to take defensive driving and either paid the fine, or paid the court costs for DA. Yeah, it was a dick move on his part, but I learned the lesson now and won't react to them roaring up and tailgating me unless they have their lights on. They are just another car on the freeway until they turn them on.

Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side when he sees the big red light behind him ... and then he will start apologizing, begging for mercy.

This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. The thing to do when you're running along about 100 or so and you suddenly find a red-flashing CHP-tracker on your tail what you want to do then is accelerate. Never pull over with the first siren-howl. Mash it down and make the ******* chase you at speeds up to 120 all the way to the next exit. He will follow. But he won't know what to make of your blinker-signal that says you're about to turn right.

This is to let him know you're looking for a proper place to pull off and talk ... keep signaling and hope for an off-ramp, one of those uphill side-loops with a sign saying "Max Speed 25" ... and the trick, at this point, is to suddenly leave the freeway and take him into the chute at no less than 100 miles an hour.

He will lock his brakes about the same time you lock yours, but it will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180-degree turn at this speed ... but you will be ready for it, braced for the Gs and the fast heel-toe work, and with any luck at all you will have come to a complete stop off the road at the top of the turn and be standing beside your automobile by the time he catches up.

He will not be reasonable at first ... but no matter. Let him calm down. He will want the first word. Let him have it. His brain will be in a turmoil: he may begin jabbering, or even pull his gun. Let him unwind; keep smiling. The idea is to show him that you were always in total control of yourself and your vehicle while he lost control of everything.

On another note, does Willie D. Powells III do this kind of work?

I hired Sullo.

The problem was I had a high-volume cop (there's another thread on this), and he was going from courtroom to courtroom to deal with his cases. I was in Court 11 or 12 and we just sat there waiting all morning for him to finally get to that room.

Wonder what percentage of people in the "everyone does it" camp also come here to ***** every time they see a cyclist run a stop sign.....

You gotta see the video of the cop tackling the cyclist across from Zachary and slapping a felony evading charge on him

You realize that if you see the lights and accelerate away that's Evading in a Vehicle and a felony, right?

Even if the DA eventually drops the charges, you will get arrested, car towed, etc.
