How long do you want to ignore this user?
In an effort to ass up this board some more with old man peepaw questions - headed to a show in a couple weeks at White Oak and not sure what to expect as its about the only venue in town i havent ever been to.

Looking at the map im guessing parking licks? Is Uber a PITA trying to get out of there?

Is Raven Tower the only bar, or are there spread out liquor & beer vendors? Guessing this is really the only close local option for pregaming.

Thanks buttholes.

There's sections along N. Main you can park and walk.

It's a really good venue. I have seen not crowded shows from the main lawn area and had a blast. I was at the Glass Animals show last fall and had tickets in one of the reserved balconies and it was definitely worth it, the main lawn was overcrowded. If its a really big show/getting a lot of buzz you might consider a premium ticket option.

Raven Tower is the most convenient pregame spot for sure. Inside the venue there are other places to buy drinks.

We usually cross 45 on foot to get an Uber home, you don't have to go too far to get out of the surge area usually. Walk down Bayland Ave and enjoy the awesome Live Oaks lining the street.

Good venue, beer is cheaper than the Woodlands, Raven Tower is cool (and only bar around there other than the volleyball bar), you can park on the Heights side of 45 and walk across the freeway.

Lawn shows are great there when they're not overcrowded. I think the sound inside isn't the greatest. I've heard they've been overselling both inside and out recently - and that sucks. Also, it's an easy walk/bike from the Woodland Heights over the North street bridge.

Dudes from deftones gave me a set of guitar strings and a drumstick when I was like 12 at the warped tour. Rancid and nofx played I think and Eminem was on a side stage. I think that was the first year. Pennywise might have been there too. Saw deftones again at the international ballroom couple years later.

Good talk.

This is now the 40 year old me going to the same shows we saw back in jr high at the abyss, IBall etc…but what can I say, that's how I still like to roll.

After sevendust last month (again, a band we've seen for 25 years) I hurt like a mofo just from getting up close for the last 3 songs.

Better bring my walker for a GA standing ragoo festival mosh pitting with a bunch of other 40 year old nu-metal JNCO bros

I've seen many shows there. Yes parking sucks balls, unless you have a pre-paid parking pass. I always Uber over, but I live close by. I always go to Raven Tower post-show for a drink or two to let the crowd die down and then call for a ride.

Unfortunately there is no other option for pre-drinking around except for Raven Tower. But they got a lot of craft beers (right up your alley) and they serve liquor as well. Prices are normal for drinks. The next closest area, I guess, would be all the bars on White Oak and Studemont. Pay $5 to park where Fitzgerald's use to be and pre-game around there. Then it would be a cheap Uber ride over.

The beer selection at White Oak is fairly limited - Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Love Street, Hopadillo, Crawford Bock, Dos Equis. Maybe also have some St. Arnold's but can't quite remember. There are two outside bars and one inside the hall. Caution: the craft beer is $1 extra inside the hall (for whatever reason) for the same beer. Liquor is also served as well

Overall it's a great venue, especially if the weather is nice. Good intimate setting especially when not a crowded show; you can get really close to the stage. Try and get a setlist! I think I may go see Testament and Exodus there next week, which won't be packed. But I do have tickets to Turnpike and that will be a packed cluster. Can't wait!

Cool thanks for the insight - may just run up N.Main and hit hughies, pinkertons or Teo beforehand and hit Raven ahead (and after) of all the black shirts.

Show is sold out so I imagine it'll be pretty packed on lawn

I saw Marcus King inside at white oak the second time he came to Houston and grabbed the set list for one of the girls I was with. Probably wasn't half full. Great place.

I want some details on their sound restrictions. I've been to shows that were bone rattling loud (Tame Impala) and been to shows where the volume was noticeably low (Jason Isbell & Father John Misty). I think they must get a monthly show where they can surpass a certain decibel level and the rest have to be under a certain level. The shows also have to end by like 10pm during the week. I've also heard that there a sound restrictions during STAAR testing which is coming up.

The bass at Bon Iver last week was rattling my sternum, so, April might be done already.

With the settlement, residents agreed to drop the suit in return for several concessions from White Oak Music Hall: a maximum of 40 outdoor shows per year, with no more than 20 falling on HISD school nights; a 9:30 p.m. bedtime on nights before State of Texas Assessment of Academic Resources, or STAAR, testing dates; and sound-monitoring equipment with the noise data available to residents. Any violations carry progressive monetary penalties, up to $15,000 each.

I have also heard they get a pass for a certain number of loud shows but haven't seen that explicitly written.

What's the typical Saturday night show cutoff?

Just checked my location history and I left the venue at 10:59 pm after the Glass Animals show on 9/11 which was a Saturday. The band was still playing at 10:42 (I have a video), so I think they wrap between 10:45 and 11 on Saturdays. That said, it was one of their biggest shows of the year so they may have been willing to pay a fine/used some sort of "pass" on it.

Shuts down at 11pm. They'll let you stay for a little bit after (maybe 15-20 minutes) but they'll emphatically push people out
