Jonathan's can custom make anything you want. Did engagement, wedding bands and additional pieces since with them and very satisfied.

I've sent plenty of people to him over the years. He can make anything. Take him the picture of a Tiffany ring or anything high end and you will get the same thing made for cheaper with bigger and higher quality diamonds.

Chuck has been making engagement rings similar to the back of Aggie rings for a long time. He did mine 9 or so years ago and I definitely wasn't the first. A little worn down now….just like my aggie ring.

Screwed me on two custom settings, a separate jeweler that's highly regarded here had a theory that one was modified from a different sized stone, who knows about the first but was likely also something they had on hand. I've posted the longer version a couple times but don't have time to search right now.

End of the day, I could have sent it back without leaving the store but who the F am I to judge jewelry design and I had a trip to Napa the next day and a question to ask.

My advice to anyone getting something custom is either have the chick or dude recipient involved or get a solitaire to use when asking.

Always use a solitaire. The rest can come later.

If it's not fancy enough for them you just got your big red flag to pull the cord and jump.

Sorry you had a bad experience! One more follow up- what do you mean by using a solitaire at first? Do you mean for fitting the setting they have? The ring i purchased for my wife only had the one stone with some around the band, so no experience with settings that have other large stones

I'm saying a simple setting with a solitaire is all you need to get engaged. You don't need an elaborate setting with 15 smaller diamonds intertwined in the shape of a cyclone.

Do that later if needed but not for engagement.

I guess I'm being dense, but why waste money on a solitaire if that isn't the type of ring she wants?

I'm not big on the whole "guy must have every detail communicated to him on what kind of setting and large stone and smaller stones the girl wants" idea.

This isn't a Christmas wish list a kid sends to Santa. There needs to be some spontaneity. If he eyes a great pear-shaped 2ct stone and gets that in a simple setting instead of whatever 1.25ct with two smaller stones on each side that she envisioned, she should be glad he went with elegant and simple.

There was a time when the guy took a leap of faith and bought stone and setting and got on one knee and the girl was thrilled to be asked and that he took the initiative.

If she's going to have that much say in the engagement ring she might as well pick the day they are getting engaged and the place and time and what they are wearing.

If she doesn't like the ring he buys and comments on it, he needs to punt. This is an indicator of her being high maintenance and he just avoided a marriage full of similar henpecking and nagging.
