I am coming in town for the holidays and my family and I are wanting to get some fresh oysters for Xmas Eve.

Anyone have any recommendations (other than HEB) located close to or near League City?

There's bound to be a local seafood market near you. Google it and look for one with good reviews.

(If you don't get a solid rec)

Rose's is where my dad goes. Early in his career, he was a health inspector, and one if his jobs was to test the oyster beds and inspect the various seafood processing facilities. So, he's picky.

Where are you coming from? If you are driving from out west, take Hwy 90A through Altair just west of Eagle Lake. There is a old guy that sells fresh shrimp and oysters out of his pickup at the corner the intersection of 90A and 71. They are fresh everyday and he does take credit cards.

The Mens Club usually has good quality. Fantasy on 45 if youre looking for value.

Hillman's is who my dad keeps referencing and ill tell him about Rose's.

Any opinions on grabbing them at Gilhooeys, Top Water, etc. down in that area or will they be a bit more expensive?

1. Pier 6 - San Leon, slightly more upscale, family friendly environment, nice atmosphere, great view of the bay, outdoor seating, big screen tv, most expensive of all 4, accessible by boat
2. Gilhooley's - San Leon, extremely casual, no one under 18 allowed, big locals hangout, fun atmosphere, outdoor seating
3. Tommy's - Clear Lake, slightly more upscale, more of an older crowd hangout, quieter atmosphere, no outdoor seating
4. Topwater - San Leon, fun environment, outdoor seating on water, family friendly, accessible by boat

* my rankings based purely on oysters, not personal preference or atmosphere:

To buy at market
1. Hillman's
2. Rosie's

Hilman's or anyone of the 15 seafood markets off Todville road in Seabrook just opposite the bridge from the board walk. If you buy from a restaurant you're just paying extra when you can just to the source. Prestige is good too as mentioned above.

Tommy's in Clear Lake has a happy hour where you can get a dozen raw for I believe $8. They have always been good quality over there

Pops went to Hillmans and they told him no more raw oysters in the shell due to the bays being closed. Not sure what is going on but it kills the plans of shucking oysters and drinking cold beer Xmas Eve.

The bay is limited to fishing because of the Freeze but normally the oysters season in Galveston bay runs Nov 1st thru April 1st. The freeze really put a dent on harvest for all sea life in the bay this year.

AUSTIN The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is closing TX-1, TX-5 and TX-7 in Galveston Bay and TX-24 in Espiritu Santo Bay to commercial and recreational oyster harvest beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2021
Well ****, your dad missed it by a day.

I've heard the oysters at Pier 36 are amazing.

We get oysters at Good Vibes in East Pearland. East coast varieties always available. Always great.

I'd re-read this thread, realize the answer I seek has already been covered, and proceed to kick my own ass
