Here's a summary:
-The match scoring is Hit Factor.
-Magazine capacity full or 10 rounds.
-All unloaded starts.
-20 rounds max per stage
-6 stages
-At least one mentor per squad
-Stages focused on the basics
-Divisions: Optics, Iron Sights, Optics 10 (10 round max capacity), Iron Sights 10 (10 round max capacity), and PCC.
-Other than holster safety rules, no restrictions on equipment.

Holster safety rules:
-Holster must completely prevent access to, or activation of, the trigger while holstered
-No shoulder holsters
-No holster that points the muzzle of the handgun farther than 3 feet from the competitor's feet while standing relaxed.

Please be there by 8:00. Shooters meeting at 8:15
Hammer down (shooting starts) 8:30am.

Refunds are available only if you withdraw 72 hours before hammer down. A 5% fee will be deducted to cover the processing fees.

This is an introduction to competitive pistol shooting. You will need your pistol at least two magazines, and a holster.

I posted this for a couple reasons.

First it is a lot of fun and while the regular matches are never hurting for competitors, usually having 50-70, this intro match is normally not well attended and it would be nice if they had more new faces. They do them the first Sunday of every month. Its great way to get into the game without starting in a full speed match. And ladies there are normally at least a few women shooting. Same thing for age groups, teens to seniors so don't think you will be out of place for any reason.

Second, most pistol owners just have zero skill and don't know it. Shooting one stage at one event is a pretty good reality check and hopefully inspires people at all skill levels to get better.

Third, I want shooting sports to grow in membership and participation. Doesn't matter if its 3 Gun, USPSA (this event type), or IDPA (similar event type). And while I don't enjoy shooting IDPA much, I would be happy if someone came out shot this match and then started regularly competing in it.

If equipment is stopping anyone from coming out please let me know and I will try to help if I can. I have enough spare holsters and mag carriers to help just about anyone.

And don't worry about what type of pistol you own either. As long as it is not a revolver or something crazy you will be fine.

That particular range is open to the public. I think they may also rent out individual bays for practice. I know they will do that for members.

If you want to be able to practice in an open environment and not just standing in a lane at an indoor range a membership at Wallis Orchard Gun Range, Thunder Tactical in Conroe or The Ranch in Eagle Lake would be a good idea. There are others but I am not familiar with every range in the area and what they offer.

Shooting at the local indoor range is the intro to skill building of course and if that is what you want to accomplish then there are plenty of good indoor ranges to start at in Houston. Athena Gun club on I10 offers good classes with one on one instruction. Ask for Armando.

Heck, when I was a kid, we spent all our time with .22 rifles. The .357, .45, .44, etc...Those were only for showing off when we had company and wanted to get bougie. Can't imagine what the prices are today.

If you have a shotgun and want to do something different from sporting clays, trap, or skeet, then maybe falling steel matches are a worth looking into. This was earlier today in Cleveland Tx. You would only need to buy some shell caddies.

You are going to have a lot of fun.

The course set up from this last Saturday will be used again minus a few targets to keep the round count down. Only other difference is the starts will be unloaded. So if you want to see what you will shoot before hand you can look at my Instagram posts to see each stage.

Anyone else that wants to come out please do.

There will be very few shooters this week as most are headed to Dallas for a major match. So instead of shooting with 70 people it will be more like 15.
