Some may have seen my post already on other sites but if not I am a coin collector

I only collect I am not buying to turn around and sell for a profit and I hope to collect for the next 30 years but dont know if I will make it to 90

Anyways this is what I do and have been involved for aboit 10 years now and have many books if you would like to sell or just send me pictures and I can give a quick appraisal of about what you have but dont be disappointed when a1888 silver dollar is only worth 25 or less and in ms63 only 45.00

Some coins are just not valued the way you think they should be

The reason I posted the above which I never have but I have so many people that will contact me and think they are sitting on a gold mine and when I let them know what the prices are they think I am trying to get to them

So I am sorry no pawn stars was not my intention and they donhave to make a living but I just enjoy looking and buying coins and my kids can sell every one of them

Nope no big value they are gonna make me or them but it keeps me from foolishly spending money on cigars so that when I die maybe it will be oh wow look how smart or why would he buy that conversations between the four

I don't collect but I always look at my change to see if I got anything silver. Probably find something 1-2 times a year. Got a 1964 dime a couple months ago. With true weight in silver.

Lol i think I went through 8 or 10 boxes of halves and found like 1 90% and a handful of 60% before i gave up. The problem is you pretty much have to order boxes or you end up getting someone else's dumps, and even if you order them you can still end up with dumps. My best score lately was i got a cup of coffee and in my change was 4 wheat pennies. I asked the cashier if she had just broken a roll and if so could i buy the rest of it from her. Ended up getting 30 wheaties as old as 1919. No key dates but still cool

That is a good find and it does make you feel great that you found some old coins that are worth more than just a penny

Depending on the grade some of them are worth 50cents and maybe a dollar again depending on grade

I have a pretty big stack of Ben Franklin and Kennedy silver half dollars. I assume they're worth their weight in silver because none are in particularly good shape. Have several liberty dollars that are the same. Only thing I have of note is an 1896 Morgan dollar that is in exceptionally good shape. Figure it's worth a solid $40-50.
maddiedou

1896. It could be but if you ever want to truly know take to a pawn shop and a coin/fold/ silver business and ask them for a price

Or you can email me. A xf 40 is 35 and yours could be that

I have a $500 bill that my dad got from my grandfather and passed to me. No old coins really, other than an 1876 dollar that I carry with me

I've bought a few coins over the years. Mostly silver proof sets. the coolest piece (to me) that I have is a 1869 3 cent nickel. I thought it was cool because at the time I had not heard of a 3 cent nickel. In my mind a nickel meant 5 cents. it had never dawned on me that the name was for the metal, not the value. It is sealed and labeled as in very fine condition, but not by a true appraisal company.
I also have a gold 1878 20 Deutsch mark piece

My dad did a little bit of coin collecting when he was younger. As far as I know, nothing of notable value. But as a kid, I remember loving the steel pennies he had.

When I was young and didn't knownany better I had like 50 lbs of coins thst equaled hundreds of dollars in their country of origin. Imagine my sadness when I rode my bike to a bank and was told they were worthless.

If I can remember I'll dig mine out and post a picture of it this evening. I've got my very modest coin collection in an old cigar humidor in my gun safe. I like it because it's kind of like a treasure chest. I have my silver rounds just scattered in there and the other stuff blended in with it. I keep thinking I should buy a string of pearls and toss in with it, maybe a few emeralds, etc.

Hey I just want to give a massive shout out to maddiedou. I asked him about getting a silver dime to replace the one I used to carry and to give one to the kids and he offered and did send me 3 and wouldn't take my money. It was extremely kind and I am forever indebted. I carried one in my wallet for luck for years and that wallet was stolen and this will replace it for me and the kids. Great kind and generous OP.

A started watching a docuseries about the Roman Empire. How would a person go about buying some Roman coins that are legit and don't break the bank? Not interested in becoming a collector. Just think owning a few would be cool.
maddiedou

You have to go to auction sites and most of them are graded by pcgs or ngc

I'm the opposite of this. I frequently drop old money into circulation (and have been doing so for 7 years now). This week I dropped a 1909 dime and a 1962 Franklin half at a Whataburger and CFA, respectively. I always smile at the hope that someone gets it as change and really appreciates it

If I came across 4 wheat pennies as change I'd give a couple back in the hopes that some other people would also get a little fun surprise. If someone is starting a new collection though, then 30 wheat pennies would be a fun start.

Happy (coin) hunting everyone!

I'm pretty cynical and have pretty much given up doing random good deeds hoping someone else will appreciate it. Chances are those pennies would have gotten circulated 15 times then done a few thousand spins in a dryer or lost or melted down or smashed on railroad tracks if i didn't keep them. Almost 0 chance anybody would have ended up with them that would appreciate them more than i do, and hopefully i can pass on my appreciation for old stuff (and these pennies) to my kids. So no ragrets but i hope you keep sending cool old stuff back into the wild because maybe I'll find it and add it to my collection!
