That list is really let down by Goode Co. and Pizzitola's. Both are barely palatable.
sounds like the whole idea of the list is to have a variety of restaurants. Some where you'll willingly wait for an hour in line and some that serve consistently mediocre BBQ. There's a place for both, clearly.
Where is Carl's BBQ in Cypress then

Sadly it was the only place in the area back in the day and we ate a mile of it at CyFair Athletic meetings. The Mac and cheese was the best thing they had going back in the day.

Living on the Upper East Side we hit Tin Roof a good bit. I won't call it excellent BBQ but it's damn good. I'd call it consistently well above average. Plus, on weekends they generally have a little country band playing covers of classics and there's a playground for the kids while we knock back buckets of beer.

I went to a defensive driving class there once. Back when Houston was a BBQ desert and I lived up that way it was passable as Saturday hangover food.

You need to find Fire Craft.

True, but Tin Roof is a great location. They also make good burgers, and I always give extra points when the fries are fresh...like 5 Guys.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

True. As mentioned, Tin Roof does a pretty good job! I have to try their burger now.

Incidentally, the pitmaster at Fire Craft learned to run a pit at Tin Roof. Worked there for a number of years.

From what I gather, their new owners are trying to elevate their product, so it's possible.

New BBQ Heat map just dropped this morning:

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/projects/guide/best-bbq-houston/

Some usual suspects - some new names I'm going to have to do some research on. For the life of me, I can't understand how Harlem Road BBQ keeps showing up on lists. I tried them twice - back in 2019 and in 2021 and that **** was pretty terrible. I'm not the only one:

Owner/pitmaster Ara Malekian's rustic Richmond smokehouse easily has earned its place in the hearts of Houston-area barbecue fans for its menu of standout brisket, beef ribs and house-made sausages
Ara must be funneling some $$$ towards the Chron. I'm gonna give it ONE more try and see what the hell is going on here. Has anyone been recently? I'm assuming they're only in business because they are in the shadow of a giant Amazon distribution center over there.

Witts Pitt in Rosenberg puts out some pretty consistent food and doesn't make it.

I've recently had several people mention Stockyard BBQ to me near Westheimer and Voss. I've always passed by it and thought it was a dump but they've been around a while and must be doing something right. Anyone else know anything about this place?

I've eaten there once about two years ago. Brisket was okay, but hey Roegel's is right around the corner.

I think this place has a good catering business and that keeps the doors open.

Glad to see Fire Craft make the map. On the Stand-in-line-o-meter, I give it 3.5 out of 10!

I can't remember his heritage… Lebanese jumps to mind but I wouldn't swear to it. He integrates a lot of his heritage into Texas style bbq. It's not for everyone, but his addition of Sumac to a brisket rub I think is pretty brilliant. I've integrated it into my beef rub as well.

Burn's BBQ is legit. We use to visit there when we lived in Garden Oaks.

Burn's is the real deal. Loved that place when I was in Garden Oaks as well. I'd be the only white guy there which validates it is LEGIT! Met the grandson a few years back… good people

And in other news the grandson of Ed Dozier will be reopening Dozier's in Fulshear. The last owners really fcked it up when they started serving ribs with fruity pebbles sprinkled on them…

I'm all for restaurants experimenting in order to stand out in a crowded field, but cereal on bbq? Thats a hard pass.

Best of luck to the new owners and hopefully they can make it work. A bbq restaurant in a growing Fulshear should be a slam dunk. Its unfortunate they don't own the building and land as increasing rents will be the never-ending battle as the area continues to grow.

Oh thats cool.

Dozier's back 25 years ago was some of the better bbq one could get in the state.

Any recommendation for BBQ on the East End? J Bar M is over there but Hoot's & Boot Texas Kitchen have good ratings but might be more soul food.

Sidenote- I strongly recommend Rosemeyer BBQ in Spring. It's very good.

Pit Room new location in memorial city has done a great job. Solid bar area/game watching and solid neighborhood craft bbq.

Breakfast tacos are sneaky good. Gut rockets, but so dank.
