Sorry Tandy, I had to call you out on that one. Just too strange a request.

For what it's worth, Rice Box is damn good. Looks like you figured that out. I have other opinions on Heights Asian Cafe or whatever it's called, but their food is good...

What do you have against Heights Asian Cafe?

Cafe Ginger is the best I've had in the area. Right off W. Gray and Dunlavy. You will not be disappointed.

I felt nickel and dimed. They charged me for a cup for some water (take out order), they charged me for wanton strips to put in my soup when literally every other Chinese place I've ever been gives them free at least when you order soup, if not brought to the table free when you sit down. When I went you apparently couldn't upgrade rice to fried rice with a meal. You had to buy a whole portion of fried rice in addition to the meal, though I've heard otherwise now. And that portion was good and large but Jesus Christ I didn't need 4 days worth of rice, I just wanted enough for my meal.

Like I said, the food was fine, nothing spectacular but better than your average buffet stuff. I just didn't like the way they ran their business.

It's not good but if you like Panda Express you'll love Eastern on 34th and Oak Forest.

Hell if you like Panda you'll love the frozen food aisle at HEB. And if you go this route you can throw out the rice.

Anybody ever eat at KA Sushi lately.

19th and Shepherd.

Curious if the quality has held steady.

I think the 3rd or 4th biggest failure of my life is that I've never been to a Benihana's. I'll have to make an empty promise to myself to change that soon.

They use to have a filet minion lunch special.

Tell them you wanted it medium rare. Came with soup, rice, vegetables, tea.

Thats probably the best you'll get downtown.

There was a Chinese food place in the lobby of Shell Tower. It wasn't spectacular but it was decent for lunch. Closed down in 2013.

Seems like there was a Chinese buffet that did take out a few blocks east of 59.

Expensive and average, IMO. Sushi at HEB is on par and much cheaper.

Welp, that's a new one in the urban mythology of things that Chinese restaurants cook.

Someone go eat the gd filet minion lunch at Benihana's and settle this.

Pretty sure there is a tunnel entrance in the parking garage right next door.

Also, I know you said Chinese, but try Asia Thai Market (on Dulton), very good! Try their pad Thai or Red curry.

Better than Thai Gourmet?
I have eaten Thai all over the country and nothing tops Thai Gourmet. But Asia Thai Market is my second favorite in the tine.

Rice Box is the best chinese in heights area imo if you like chow mein or lo mein, but Heights Asian Cafe on Yale is also very good imo.

North China at I-10 and hwy 6 might be the best Chinese in the tine...and they have a hardcore Korean "secret" menu. I think the family fled Chinese persecution and settled in Korea before migrating here, or something like that.

I understand a filet minion may be an underling of the all powerful Mr Benihana, but I just don't see that as grounds for them to be served to the guests. That's all I'm saying.

Now a filet mignon from Mr Benihana, and we might be in business.

If you want some really good chinese good recommendations, I highly recommend the facebook group, Chow Down in China Town - Houston.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/chowdownhouston

The group is one of the most active groups I have ever seen. They have reviews and questions to fulfill all of your possible requirements. I will say, that it is more Chinese Chinese food over American Chinese food for the most part. But all of the recommendations I have taken from there have been on point.

One Dragon for Xiao Long Bao is about the best I have had other than Din Tai Fung.
