Pour one out for the best low key Italian restaurant in Houston.

Quote:

After 28 years of business, Patrenella's Italian Restaurant at 813 Jackson Hill St. has permanently closed.

Patrenella said the shutdown amid the coronavirus pandemic contributed to his decision to close the restaurant.

"We'd been thinking about it since Christmas, but then the virus came along and we had to close. The restaurant business is in terrible shape," he said.

Sammy Patronella was great particularly when he had Andre as the chef. He was a big supporter of A&M and when he heard I was an Ag he introduced me to one of the Junction Boys. I do not remember who it was.

Sorry to see them go

Was a fantastic restaurant when Andre was the chef. I haven't been back in probably 10 years. My groom's cake was a bunch of tiramisu ordered from them.

Lived two blocks away until a year ago. Wife and I would walk over for dinner once every few weeks. Sorry to see them close.

Slowly went down hill. 10 townhomes will be built there soon.

Sorry to see that. I had family members in the photos on the walls. The Patronellas were cousins of my grandfather. Had many man large family meals in that back room. That is sad...

Nice place, nice people but the food just wasn't that great in the few times I've been over the last 10 - 15 years.

was great back in the day. Food went downhill last time I visited about 2-3 years ago, told myself not to go back. Sorry to see them go however, the location & atmosphere were great - just needed better food!

Restaurant was amazing when the Mom ran the place and Andre was the chef while Dad was pretty much a back slapper. They hired the son as part of the waitstaff and he cleared tables with a big dip in his mouth.

Will be a shame to see the house go away and become "developed" but that is what will happen.

Old Houston is definitely disappearing...Celebrated several birthdays at this restaurant. Sammy P loved Aggies. Sad to see this one go.

I never noticed all the Aggie stuff until the last time I went and sat in the room closer to the bar.

Agree with most of the comments above. I'd heard a long time ago that they were unsure about the future, so the shutdown was probably just the final decision point.

Why wouldn't they sell?

Guessing the market to sell a restaurant during a pandemic where the government can shut down the entire nation at the drop of a hat including all restaurants isn't much of a sellers market.

This was one of my favorite low key spots in Houston. We loved eating in the room decked out in Aggie sports memorabilia...good times.
