I know it's louder with it shut, but it's dang near perfect outside. What's the point in having the ability to open the roof of you're never gonna open it?

Minute Maid roof was open a ton this season on April/May. Plus it's open every day for sunlight for the grass

This is correct. The Minute Maid roof is used all the time to get sunlight to the grass. I've also been to many games when it opens in 8th - 9th inning after it cools down or for a firework show.
I suspect the reasoning for the NRG roof was mostly to grow natural turf as well. But even with the roof open the sides of the building were too tall to get enough sunlight to the playing surface. Remember how bad the grass used to look? Once they made the switch to artificial turf, there isn't much need to open the roof.
Terrible oversight by the architects.
Not true. It may be rare, but we mostly go to weeknight games and it's happened on occasion.Quote:
Not in a long time you haven't. They haven't opened the root midgame since the mid 2000s. Once the last out is made they get it open for fireworks though
If I recall... Opposing teams complained when it would be opened during the game. It takes too long to open between innings or sides so it's still moving during play.ChiliBeans said:Not true. It may be rare, but we mostly go to weeknight games and it's happened on occasion.Quote:

I was at that game, it was over by the 1st half. They Steelers put up something like 30 points in the 1st half. I sweated Northgate while watching a tejano try to beat an 81 year old Steelers fans ass for no reason.drumboy said:
Used to be open all the time as they felt heat was a competitive advantage. I sold beer from 02-04 and remember a Steelers games that was hot AF and some lady showed me her tlts to let her fill her turrble towel with ice. They weren't nice but no regrets.
Grass looked bad not due to lack of sunlight but because it was always installed and removed since Texans games are the one of the only event la there that needs grass. It was grown on big pallets.
