Does anyone have any experience with the Kipling School?

Seems like a great place, but I have also seen a lot of bad reviews lately... thinking many of them are fake posters (competitors).

Thanks and Gig 'em!

Both my kids go to Kipling on Shepherd, ages 4 and 2. We do love it, however the past few months there have been lots of transition because of the new school they built across the street. Lots of teachers are being shuffled around, and things haven't been consistent, which my kids need, so we've had our issues as well. There have been lots of parents losing their patience over this and posting lots of reviews and comments on Facebook, etc. I think things are starting to settle with school starting back up.

For daycare? Preschool? Elementary?

I think they are great for daycare and preschool. The teachers and school staff really loved our boy and we were very pleased. So pleased that we stayed on for a few years of elementary.

That said, I have mixed feelings about the elementary program. Most of it was due more to the character of kids and their families than the school itself, although we weren't fans of the last teacher. Luckily we lived in a great school district so we pulled our son and are now in the neighborhood school.

The yelp reviews look like one lady got pissed and had a few other friends pile on. I was somewhat active there and I know that they just don't kick anyone out. You have to be a real piece of work to be asked to leave. Maybe some of her complaints are legit, I don't know, I wasn't in daycare at the time. Other reviews complain about wait list times...well there's nothing you can do about that.

Yes, That mom lives in our neighborhood, and I've been following it on our neighborhood Facebook page. I really think there is way more to the story about her getting kicked out of the school other than what she is saying, and is creating quite the smear campaign against Kipling, thus the now recent bad reviews. The school, or at least preschool/daycare really is great and the teachers are what make it so great.

Just curious, about how much does Kipling elementary school run per year per child?

$13-14k. After school care is another $500/semester if you choose to do that.

Ugh, it's a real kick in the pants to have to drop $14k a year for elementary school because the school you are zoned to is piss poor even though you already pay a ton in property taxes. No wonder so many people move from the Heights after their second child reach school age.

With all the gentrification, why do the HISD inner city schools suck so bad?

It's a conspiracy with the private schools so they can continue to charge $20K a year for your kid to finger paint.

Not when you already pay over $20k a year in property taxes, much of which is supposed to be going to HISD.

Maybe you should have thought of that before owning a million dollar home

We did but our realtor told us that our house was about to get rezoned to Harvard and that was apparently a lie. At the time, the school that we are actually zoned to was rumored to become a magnet and was on a steady upwards trajectory to respectability but that all went to **** a few years ago.

Not really. There's better options for 1/2 to 3/4 of the cost in the Oak Forrest Area.

You heard too? Might be insider information but eff it, we're all friends here. Disney is in the process of buying Chadillac and have plans drawn to give it a minor facelift. Best thing is that it will be connected to the high speed rail. Should be open by next summer.

You don't own anything in this country. You pay rent to the government for having it. Don't pay and they take it. Having a million dollar home based on an appraisal and getting smashed with taxes is the acccepted norm.

Also living with the false idea our taxes are so low in TX because we don't have a state income tax is laughable. We are not that far off from CA in total state taxes.

There is a reason why our school system has become terrible but that's another topic.

13k for a year is a bargain for a good private school.

I just came from living in one of the highest tax base states in the country. I know what you are trying to say and agree... but no man... Texans pay way less in taxes than California... way less.

Yeah but that's the drill, it's how it works. And $14K is on the low end for good private schools.

This isn't anything new.

The Catholic schools should all be quite a bit cheaper than that for elementary. That's about it though.

Lots of factors so of course not the same for everyone as there are many different scenarios. But in general Tx chooses to make up for not having a so called state income tax by taxing many different areas.

Let's just not kid ourselves that we pay low taxes.

Texans pay relatively, but not absolutely, lower taxes.

It's the perfect location. Get a few drinks at Lil Woodrow's next door before picking up the kids right as they close.
