I got a custom tailored suit from J Hilburn that I love.....fits like a glove. Definitely my go to. I paid close to a g for it. They're similar to Tom James and I liked their options a little better than Tom James. There are several salespeople out there (and unfortunately I lost my contact there), but I think they have a storefront over in Uptown.

What does a typically fitting and suit cost there?

If you go during one of their trunk shows or one of these sales you can get a great go-to (navy, gray, pinstripe) suit for around $800. During their last trunk show I got two suits for $1600. These are custom made with your choice of everything, embroidery, buttons, pockets, suit backing, including fit. If it isn't during a sale it's closer to a grand. I like that they'll come to me, do the fitting, and bring me my suit when it's done. For me, it's extremely convenient. I should add Lauren's email. It's l.smith@tomjames.com. She'll get you squared away.

Edit to add that they will also do any repairs and alterations (if you gain or lose weight) for free for life.

If you can wait, Bobby Garia is a tailor that makes a US tour including Houston several times per year. He has hooked a ton of guys over on Varsity up. I have a suit, 3 sport coats, and closet full of shirts, chinos and slacks from him. I think his suits are 3 levels at around $500, $700, and $1,000 depending on fabric.. Even the lower end seems to be equivalent to the nicest thing you can get at Jos a banks and it fits perfectly and has custom lining, pockets, etc. I will make sure and bump this thread with his next visit when he emails me dates.

It truly would be great to be of service and had hoped to quickly share that I am all confirmed to fit from The Doubletree Hotel by the Galleria on 5353 Westheimer Road all day and evening on Saturday, August 25th, and Sunday, August 26th. I'm in Indiana visiting relatives and went in Dillard's to look around. They had suits for 60% off of selected styles with another 40% off that. I picked up a blue Hart Shaffner Marx suit with an original price of $695 for $155 after tax.

I don't know if the same sale is going on in Houston, but it might be worth a look.

Bought a really nice Ralph Lauren suit for $500 at Dillards, got it tailored for around $30 at a local shop. I got several comments on how expensive it looked.

Bobby is going to in town this week I think. Don't "need" anything but I'm guessing I'll make my way over to see him again - great stuff at reasonable prices.
