Now that I think about it, first time I had the dust was probably at Pappa's seafood in Houston.

May have been in the early 2000s.

So 2005 was wrong. It was probably earlier than that.
The earliest I remember is Floyd's, Firehouse Saloon, and Little Woodrow's doing it in 2002.

Ha! Didn't remember starting this thread years ago. My absolute go to now is Bayou City.

Was in a few weeks ago and Alex Martin-Brennan (owner if Brennan's) was at the bar eating crawfish. Bartender said he comes in at least once a week. Seems to be a pretty good endorsement.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

I have literally boiled crawfish with Tony Chachere's (doug) grand son and a guy from Kinder that ran track for LSU and was a DEA agent that worked with KiKi Camerena before he was killed.

And they both dusted their crawfish!
If your pawpaw invented the crawfish dust, you dusting crawfish.

Thats just the way it is. You do what you got to do, but that don't mean its right.

grew up in south Louisiana in 80s. some people dusted, some did not. no one really thought much of it either way. I have one brother in law that always does, another that does not. there is never any controversy when eating them.

the being outraged about it is a relatively new thing. very strange.

this season, had boil house and the vietcajun version at BBs. both excellent.

I did my freshman year at LSU and the dining halls had Tony's dusted on EVERYTHING. I don't usually mind it but I don't think I need every bite for every meal to taste like it.

What is the issue with the dusting?

It is because they have become popular so some folks want to say they were first and do it purely.

Han's Crawfish is killing it out in Tomball. Voted best in Houston recently.

BBs developed their own style. I'll give them credit for that.

BBs dusts.

But they also put that slurry on there and that cuts down on the dust.

Han's is my favorite by far. Almost didn't want to even put it on here, it's crowded enough as it is. Playing a show at Geaux Daddy's tomorrow night where Han's used to be. We'll see how their's are. Heard differing reviews.

Went to Pooks in Santa Fe last month when I was in town for work. Some of the best I've had in Houston, and BYOB to boot. Paired well with some Shiner 1909. No dust, just Pook sauce on the side and Texas country music on the speakers.

One thing thats changed over the years is that you can get crawfish 7-days a week, all season long.

Some places would do an all you can eat crawfish as a special or crawfish by the pound, but only on certain days of the week.

Up until lately it wasn't a common thing to eat crawfish. You were either at a private party, special occasion, or some other event. You couldn't go out on a Tuesday night and get crawfish. Even in south louisiana, most places had crawfish on certain nights of the week.

Now its a 7 day a week thing. You can find crawfish somewhere any night of the week. I think thats unprecedented.

There are historical accounts of the Houma Indians boiling crawfish. The Indians introduced it to the french. And the style developed into that we see today.

So even when the Indians were boiling crawfish, they probably weren't boiling crawfish every night of the week.

Who knows though, maybe they were.

Not bad, real heavy lemon flavor. Shrimp were good and yeah it's BYOB. Aggie owned. Han's is still the best in the area
