Went to the early show. Good but not great performance but the show came with an early surprise. At the door everyone had to lock their phone in a little green bag. So theoretically nobody would be on their cell during the evening. Saw a few people in my row that just hid theirs.

I don't know if this was advertised beforehand as I was not the one that bought the tickets.

Other than it adding easily 30 minutes to the time it took to get inside I didn't mind much but I have never been to any show where you had to lock your phone away.

Yeah it's a thing. Chappele did it a few years ago, and there have been stories in the news the past 2 days of Jack White beginning it and apparently some other band as well.

I'd be pissed as hell having to wait, but I also have an unhealthy hate for all of the ***** bag fembots that have to record everything and watch shows through their iPhones.

Yes. I went to the Chappelle stand up last year and we had to put phones in locked cases.

I believe I would just hide my phone in a locked console or toolbox. No way am I giving up my phone to strangers, further compounding the time it takes to be seated or exit after a show.

Its a little locked bag you keep.

Went to the night show for Joe Rogan and had a blast. So glad they found a way to conveniently remove phones from these venues.

I thought comedians did this not so much because of selfies etc. but to keep their original material off YouTube while they are on tour.

I bet Kramer wishes he had locked up everyone's phones when he went on his black hate tirade a couple years ago.

Unrelated to Joe Rogan, but saw the wolf parade show this weekend and only counted 2 phones in the sky for a limited period of time. Was surprised for a hipster band show. I think people are catching on.

Rogan lets you take selfies after the show from what I remember. Dude stays there until every last person in line gets their selfie

You keep the locked bag? How does this work? Do you keep the key too? If not, then I'd have to agree that I would simply tell them "i don't have a phone" and avoid that whole fiasco.

But I also don't film crap when I am there to watch a show!

has a magnetically actuated lock. Dudes standing with key device in their hands as you exit. Walk by and swipe then toss bag in bin.

It uses the same super sophisticated magnetic system as clothing sensors in a store.

Yondr bags are great. Life existed before cell phones and all the snowdlakes out there need to get over it. Joe nailed it. We as a society are soft.

To me the funny part is after you put the phone in the locked bag you walk through a metal detector that of course goes off because of the phone in your hand.

Also it would have been easy to pick up a bag not put your phone it and then walk through the detector.

Don't remember what podcast I was listening to, Tuesdays With Stories, Bertcast, or Joe Rogan, but they were saying how comedians like it because they the audience seems to be more lively and responsive when they aren't distracted.
