Howdy Ags, I'm going out on a date this evening & need some recs for a good French restaurant. I'd prefer a Houston original where the owner/family still works at over a chain, but any will work if you have any suggestions.

I don't know of many Somali or Yemeni places in the H, but I know there are quite a few ME Muslim joints around the Hillcroft/59 area.

George's Bistro in Montrose is rated 4.5 on google, but apparently the old French couple retired and now it has a more Middle Eastern/North African feel.

So if you want the true experience of what is happening in 2017 France I'd highly recommend going there.

Serious answer: Chez Nous in Humble.

For traditional high-end French dining it's pretty well known as the best place in the Houston area. Other than than, Cinq at Colombe D'Or in Montrose.

Bistro Provence is one of my favorites. Owners are there almost every night. But this is not high end French cooking. It's more more informal and casual. Not American casual, but you get the idea. Also, the place is absolutely crammed in there. Again, very French but maybe off-putting.

Yeah, Bistro Provence is in our rotation. Actually the chef who started it went in to open a couple of other places including Georges Bistro. His daughter runs it now. Food is great and it's very authentic without being pretentious.

Thank you all for all of the recommendations!

We went to Caf Rabelais, I got braised pork shank & she got a seared lamb, then finished with Creme Brule..it was all great.

Wife lived in France and went to Le Cordon Blue. She thought Brasserie Max and Julie was the best before it closed. Now it's Etolie. Won't let me put accent on first E.
