How long do you want to ignore this user?
looking at my first electric bill for new house just bought in Spring, there's a Centerpoint Energy Delivery Charge of $73. Anybody have insight and is this normal and is it a monthly fee or one time? Had no clue about setting up electricity when moved to area being that had BTU in B/CS for last 10 years so went with only name I knew. Any advice is appreciated.

Centerpoint delivers the power.

You are also overpaying for reliant. HTH.

So that's a monthly charge of $73? And yes now that I know to shop around energy companies I will when contract comes up or use Energy Ogre, but didn't know there were so many providers when set it up. Loved in a city for past 15 years that only had one option. I'm paying $0.11 per kW

The Centerpoint fee is based on usage and is something like 5 cents per kilowatt. It is the bulk of the bill regardless of provider and should be the same from provider to provider.

This

It will change monthly depending on amount of power used

Also the advertised cost is always based on 2k or greater usage. Reliant kills people on this one as their rate for less than 2k is sky high.

Yea we used like 1200kW and bill was little over 200 with $73 being that "fee"

Correction we used almost 1.8 kWh at roughly $.07 with the fee factored in it came it to be like $0.11. So will shop around next time

You will always have charges from Centerpoint no matter who your electricity provider is. The charges have nothing to do with the rate you have from your provider and you can't "shop around" to change that charge. That charge is the cost of delivering power over the transmission and distribution network from the source of generation to the end user.

Reliant does have plans for <1000 kW usage and 1000-2000 kW usage that are reasonable. I've had a <1000 kW plan for the last couple of years. But you have to know to ask for it.

Every rep is charged the same for TDU fees its just how they decided to charge you for it. Most companies just pass the fee on the consumer its not a difficult concept to understand.

Also, any increases in the TDU fees needs to be approved by the PUC before they can raise that rate.

Don't worry about the all in rate. Look only at the energy rate. It's the only portion you can manage. The rest is regulated and is going to be the same regardless of your provider.

The REP can charge you anything they want..One REP has no tdu fee but has "customer charge" that they set at their discretion.

You have to read the fine print.

So I should say ignore he all in rate and only look at the REP specific charges? More accurate?
