my wife and I are wanting to celebrate our upcoming anniversary by going in to Houston and eating a meal at a good steak place. Neither one of us have ever ate at a "nice" steakhouse. Taste of Texas is probably the nicest place either of us have ever had a meal at. We are simple country people so the high end places never appeal to us.

Where should we consider. Right now after little research I am thinking Pappas, or maybe Flemings?

Pappa's downtown is where you should go unless you want a tuna steak

People will say Pappa's but I have never had a truly amazing steak there. Vic and Anthony's makes a mean steak and amazing crab cakes.

Pappas

Pappas or Vic and Anthonys. Flemings is good, but a step below those two IMO.

Get crab cakes as an appetizer. You will not be disappointed.

Pappas for the all around high end steak house experience. Their meat is very good, but it's not the best steak in town, but they make up for that with all the other stuff: appetizers, side dishes, wine, service, dessert, etc. if you have never been to one of the top end steak places, then you won't have the experience to tell the difference in meat from one to the other anyways.

If you are simple country folk, you should stay out of Houston. It is scary and people get murdered then raped in Houston. You should probably just go to the super Walmart and pick up some flat iron steaks and grill at home.

I've always had good experiences at Brennans.

Oh... that reminds me of Brenners. Always a great experience! The original Brenners on I-10 is way better than the Brenners on the Bayou.

I know everyone says Pappas and without a doubt they have fantastic steaks, but the best steak I have ever had, note I said steak, not all the sides and experience, was definitely Flemmings. I don't know if I got the perfect steak that was cooked perfect, but that ribeye I had has not been replicated at Vic and Anothonys, Pappas, Ruth's, or Mortons. Don't get me wrong, all those steaks were good, just not as good as Flemmings.

You can't go wrong with Either Pappas location or Vic and Anthony's. I say if it is your first steakhouse experience then I would just go all out and go to Pappas.

looking at the menu's all the prices compare very similar, amirite?

I was in the same boat as you and went to Pappas on Westheimer in February for anniversary. Absolutely blown away by them. Will definitely be back.

If you want to make a night of it go to the Steakhouse in Galveston. Can stumble up to a room in the San Luis after dinner and really celebrate.

Also much smaller restaurant that will not scare the country folk, but run by Fertita so food quality is similar to Vic and Anthony's.

Vic & Anthony's is my favorite. Pappas is also a great steak and experience. Del Frisco's works be third on my list b

Del Frisco's is excellent, but I prefer Pappa's and V&A slightly more.

I am a connoisseur of all things NICE STEAKHOUSE RELATED. Just trust me... My doctor will verify.

**Pappas is always solid BUT the past two times have been just ok.
**Vic and Anthony's has my #1 vote now and I was a HUGE Pappas snob for years.
**Surprisingly, Perry's Steakhouse does a very nice job. They're known for their pork chop. Went last Saturday. Service is mediocre but the steak and sides were right on. Had a med/rare strip that was dang near perfect. PLUS they have Bananas Foster tableside for dessert...HUGE PLUS right there...

V&A's has some great lobster bisque.
