Received this response yesterday from the LCISD school board for anyone who wants information on this:
"I am happy to answer any questions and concerns you have. First, let me start by saying ALL of your concerns pertain to some of the reasons I decided to run for the board in May. I agree with you wholeheartedly and wish I could move things much faster. I feel LCISD is lagging behind in preparing for growth. LCISD was supposed to have opened a new school near the Westheimer Lakes area to alleviate Hubenak Elem by the Fall of 2016. We recently approved everything and hope to have the school completed in 18 months. In my opinion, it should already be open because Hubenak is overcrowded by approximately 400 students.
We recently discussed the necessity of another school closer to your neighborhood to help the issue the residents to the north are currently facing regarding distance and lack of mobility. This school was originally slated to open in 2017, and I am optimistic it could still happen.
Unfortunately, that's two years away. I have also talked to the City of Fulshear about the possibility of a north to south access road to help with distance and mobility but unfortunately, the road that will eventually provide access is also 2 years out before completion. Huggins is overcrowded as well and I believe LCISD is behind on planning for this as well.
I do, however, have one piece of good news. The secondary schools will be completed by the Fall of 2016, which means you won't have to drive all the way to Wertheimer, Briscoe or Foster. All the residents to the north are zoned to attend the new schools.
I apologize I don't have a faster solution to the current issue at Huggins. I was there all day and after school today helping with the car line. The last car picked up at 4 PM. I understand and agree with every point you have made and I truly hope I will be able to make a difference for our area. I have a lot of make-up work to do."
