Let me know your take on this school. Just dropped off my daughter and am very disappointed. It seems rundown, trashy, and very disorganized. We live in Firethorne and don't have time to deal with an hour wading through the parking lot. If anyone can tell me what's going on or why the principal resigned last week it would be much appreciated.

You didn't ever think to do your due diligence BEFORE the moment you drop your child off at a school you know nothing about?

Do you even parent bro?

It's been a great school by all accounts, the districts touts itself as having higher test scores than Katy, it's been an exemplary school, etc. they're building a brand new elementary school in firethorne that she will switch over to, so I though this was an ok plan for 2 years. Just want to get people input who may know the school.

District may have higher scores because Mayde Creek is still a part of Katy.

Doug Wadill resigned 4 days ago. There was no explanation as to why.

I heard it was apathetic parents that didn't get involved or informed of what was going on until the last minute that bothered him.

Does anyone actually have any input on what's going on with Huggins right now, or the situation with the principal? It's certainly not measuring up to it's reputation.

If you live in west Firethorne, stick your kid on the bus and avoid the drop off hassles.

No input, but have you acquired new info about the school ACTUALLY being built?

Yes, the school was approved in the bond last year and is in firethorne very close to our house. However, they aren't scheduled to have it completed until the 2019 school year with no explanation as to why. There was an additional elementary school scheduled to be built in 2016 to take the pressure off of Higgins but they haven't released details to my knowledge. Again, by all accounts Huggins was a great school, but it seems like their game plan for the massive expansion going on right now is terrible.

Received this response yesterday from the LCISD school board for anyone who wants information on this:

"I am happy to answer any questions and concerns you have. First, let me start by saying ALL of your concerns pertain to some of the reasons I decided to run for the board in May. I agree with you wholeheartedly and wish I could move things much faster. I feel LCISD is lagging behind in preparing for growth. LCISD was supposed to have opened a new school near the Westheimer Lakes area to alleviate Hubenak Elem by the Fall of 2016. We recently approved everything and hope to have the school completed in 18 months. In my opinion, it should already be open because Hubenak is overcrowded by approximately 400 students.
We recently discussed the necessity of another school closer to your neighborhood to help the issue the residents to the north are currently facing regarding distance and lack of mobility. This school was originally slated to open in 2017, and I am optimistic it could still happen.
Unfortunately, that's two years away. I have also talked to the City of Fulshear about the possibility of a north to south access road to help with distance and mobility but unfortunately, the road that will eventually provide access is also 2 years out before completion. Huggins is overcrowded as well and I believe LCISD is behind on planning for this as well.
I do, however, have one piece of good news. The secondary schools will be completed by the Fall of 2016, which means you won't have to drive all the way to Wertheimer, Briscoe or Foster. All the residents to the north are zoned to attend the new schools.
I apologize I don't have a faster solution to the current issue at Huggins. I was there all day and after school today helping with the car line. The last car picked up at 4 PM. I understand and agree with every point you have made and I truly hope I will be able to make a difference for our area. I have a lot of make-up work to do."

Last time I checked, the Superintendent cannot run for the school board. I think those comments can be attributed to Doug Waddill.

Also, did you actually pull data on test scores? The only district in the area that I know of to have higher test scores than Katy is Tomball. And yes, I have actually seen those scores, along with...Conroe, Magnolia, Katy, CyFair, and Klein.

That being said, sometimes schools that are pretty and new don't have teachers that are as good as schools that look run down. Some great teachers actually enjoy the "rougher" schools or older schools.

I'm confused. you bought a house in the middle of a prairie. you and 1,000's of other people. all new stuff. and you are surprised that the public isn't immediately rushing to spend money to make sure and build you all new roads and schools to make your life better?

f that. how about living where all that **** is already built or accepting you have a price to pay for where you chose to live.

hell, 2019 ain't that far away, anyway.

Can't hang this one on The Tine....or about a hundred other clusters in the exurbs. Did he say one (1) elementary school was overcrowded by FOUR HUNDRED kids? That's just obscene. Wow.

But back to the OP--Unless you're from the Fulshear area and having to deal with the problems created by growth, either deal with or move back to Houston. What a *****.
