Have a Katy thread that sort of got derailed in an OTL/ITL debate.

Looking for advice on Sugarland vs. Katy.

Key attributes to understand -
- schools, particularly elementary
- price/sq. ft
- quality of living
- young kids/parents/good place to raise kids

Any input is appreciated.

Pretty similar answers on both. Which is closer to work?

My impression is that there are a lot more Asians, Indians, Muslims, etc in SL than Katy

Stay in Cinco and you're with the rich white kids.

I live in Sugar Land, fianc lives in Cinco. I like both and both has there advantages and disadvantages. Cinco traffic sucks big time though, it's terrible. And like another poster said, Asians and Foreigns are a dime a dozen in SL. I think I have only seen two or three white families in my neighborhood.

Besides the traffic I would probably put Katy/Cinco a little higher on my list. I would go to the one closest to work though

I have lived in SL (21 yrs, 20 in New Territory) and traffic has gotten worse when you get in downtown SL but not as bad as getting around Katy. Getting to downtown and other parts of Houston are pretty easy from here. The neighborhood I live in has 83 houses, there are 3 black American families, about 20 white American families and the remainder is Indian, Asian & African. When my youngest son gets out of HS in 2017 I'm outta here! I like SL but it's far from the small town I moved to in 94.

Based on your criteria...no mention of commutes btw...

Katy schools > sugar land
Sugar land price/sq ft is cheaper
3 and 4 are very subjective

Is there really any significant difference between the quality of elementary schools in Katy and Sugarland if you live in one of the nice areas?

More Asians and Indians = more competition.

Katy does have great schools but there's something very off with the schools included/excluded.

Yeah, to believe Katy has 9 of the top 10 elem schools in entire Houston area is laughable.

Back to original question. I would narrow down specific neighborhoods before asking about schools.
