Anyway, how do I get them to correct my SF and number of bathrooms? I would think both of those affect the valuation?

If a new home take the floor plan brochure(which will show the number of bathrooms) or the appraisers drawing from the appraisal.

Got my iSettle offer and it was exactly what I asked for which is what I paid for it in 2014. Not sure if anyone else is having luck with iSettle, but it was pretty easy for me...granted this is my first year and not a lot to argue since I have a purchase price.

Precisely why you got what you asked for. They couldn't argue otherwise.

Mine went up 18%, capped at 10%. Just got to closing cost. Any chance of protest to get it lowered, or if appraised < amount paid, walk away? Never fooled with this before.

Not true at all. I was in the same boat last year; both the iSettle and the informal protest were denied. Had to go before the board to get purchase price.

Of course, they made up for it this year by increasing my market value by 20% more than the increases sustained by my neighbors. Tried to iSettle again given this fact. Again, was rejected.

Oh they can reject you, they just can't present a legit argument unless it was an unusual type of sale. 99 times out of 100, either through isettle or the informal, you'll get your purchase price if you present your closing statement and if you purchased that year.

I didn't even have to provide a closing statement through iSettle. I just put in that I purchased in 2014 and entered a requested value $10k below what I paid. They didn't fall for it and came back with my exact purchase price.

Let us know when they try to get you for lying on a government document.

I didn't take it as him lying...just requesting a value lower than what he paid.

As long as he didn't say he purchased it for that lower price. I've heard of HCAD going after people for lying on protests before.

I didn't lie about anything. No where did I indicate that -10k was below my purchase price. They asked me on the iSettle to name a value, not what I paid for the place.

Gotcha. I just didn't want them to screw you a second time.

I figured the worst thing that could happen is that ask me for my evidence and I have to show my HUD. At that point I'd be arguing that I overpaid for the property which they would deny and give me purchase price (at least that's what I hoped).

Guess I was the 1/100 then. Brought my statement to the informal; didn't budge at all.

That blows. I'd love to see/read the details.

Westbury appears to be up. 20% jump in Mkt Value, capped at 10%. Mkt Value is right around what I would think the house would go for... such is life.

This isn't within HCAD, but I found this property tax appraisal to be mildly entertaining:

Be sure to check out land vs. improvements.

A Houston property tax bill without a homestead exemption for such a valuation would be $25,578,008.96.

Wouldn't the tax bill be 0 because the federal government doesn't pay property tax?

My house is smaller than most around me. If I use comps based on improvement value per sq ft will they listen to that?

I've found some houses around me that have same number of bedroom/bathrooms and remodeled around the same time, they are just decently larger than my house. If you look at improvement value per sq ft, they are way lower than me.

So the consensus was that we have until May 31st (June 1st really) to file a protest, right? Nothing has to be done by the COB today?
