My only experience with them was them giving out free crawfish at a no Label tour, and they were big and tasty.

quote:Sassappis- as much as it ticks me off, they don't enforce the rule. At least, Ive never hear of them doing it- and I have seen my competitors loading up my crawfish from HEB every year.
$1.97 a pound at heb this weekend with a limit of 2 sacks. That will be a hard price to beat. I need 3 so I guess I will have to send an extra person.

Sasappis is right. HEB sells at a tremendous loss leader during this promotion and their next one.
If you don't want to deal with HEB you can make retail orders in town at 3122 Dunvale Rd, Houston, TX 77063
(713) 977-3515. $3.05 a pound. (changed price- just went up today)
It's not my company but I service them.
quote:Sorry- I only service one store on west side (katy) but don't offer retail there- its a restaurant. Hideaway on Dunvale is the only option this year or down at Boyds. My drivers spent too much time waiting for people in years past and it put us in a bind servicing our 7 days a week wholesale customers.
Can you sell direct or have anyone further out on the westside? I am willing to pay more if I know for certain I will have the bugs, but truthfully I would rather get up early and sit at heb than drive around town chasing bugs at an extra dollar a pound.
quote:Kroger uses a warehouse model- which means the store receives an order, calls a central warehouse that receives then dispatches the crawfish. You will not be happy with what you get. Hard to call em fresh when they've been out of water for 2 days already.
Kroger is $2.49 a pound for the weekend but they are taking orders through tomorrow. A little extra money but worth it to have the crawfish guaranteed in my opinion. Who knows, bring the HEB ad with you and they might match the price.
quote:Always best to call ahead. That's a very busy weekend already.
I am planning on doing a crawfish boil on the 12th (Sunday). Would probably pick up in the Kemah or Texas City area. Do I really need to call in advance or should I be able to get taken care of the morning of the boil?
TIA.
quote:I appreciate the info. Any idea how far in advance I should call for pickup on Sunday the 12th? Or does it just depend on location, demand, etc.?quote:Always best to call ahead. That's a very busy weekend already.

Call Boyds early in the day Saturday and you should be fine if its under 10 sax. If over, probably call by Thursday.

HEB was a madhouse this morning. Folks in line at 7 didn't get any bugs so I just went with the crawfish from Kroger. He is right about them being from a warehouse as opposed to a fresh truck, but they have a sticker that shows them as being packed yesterday. The bag is a mixed field run and all the bugs look great and alive. At this point I am just glad to have crawfish for this afternoon.
quote:That is strange. I called on Wednesday to the local Fiesta and they said 2.99/lb. I also called the local H-E-B and he told me they were continuing the crawfish promo and should have them at $1.97lb on Friday/Saturday/Sunday FCFS basis. My plan is to try some of the places in Kemah tomorrow before H-E-B. I have been hearing good things about a place called Boyd's down there. They send out texts when they have availability.
Fiesta @ 249 and veterans memorial has it listed on the sign for $1.59 / #. Or at least it looked like 1.59. Tempted to grab a sack out of curiosity Saturday if weather permits a boil. I'll see if I can get a manager to tell me if they'll take reservations or if any of the bigs come in to poach them.
quote:Matt, Im in Meyerland so if you ever need help just pm me. I try to get on TA every day but doesn't always happen. I did a boil today in Westbury for some friends "Masters Party"
Has anybody used Cajun Gourmet?
Saw that they deliver to you area. I think my buddy used them last year and they were pretty decent.
Probably going to need 2 sacks minimum
Edit: I'm on the south side of town in Westbury.
quote:61 pounds should mean a nice med-large mix. You got great bugs for the price. Lots of guys would call that a "Select" and charge .50 more.
Just picked up 61 pounds (2 sacks) at HEB. Look like they are pretty good size.
I am a rook when it comes to boiling if you couldn't tell by now, but I had never heard you could either buy live run or jumbo. I got live run because there was a difference in price of about $1.40/lb. From the looks of it these are pretty good size though.
