I seriously doubt you will see any Texas bands make the list because the demand is just not there. Maybe Aaron Watson, but I really doubt it.

The sad reality is people like ****ty music and want to see them perform. Look no further than the attendance, more people came to see Ariana Grande and Pittbull than Alan Jackson

Yup, it has to be over a decade since JJW REK Lyle Lovett ZZ Top etc have played. Just have to hope for a good hideout lineup

ZZ Top has played within the last 5 years

And the problem is these types are too big for the Hideout but not big enough pulls for the show.

ZZ Top Played in 2012

Eli Young Band played a couple years ago and it sucked, mainly bc they suck though

Lassie played in 1962, lets bring that ***** back!

Young people are more willing to drive into town for an evening concert.

This x1000. Saw him in November at Arena Theatre, great show. Dwight still has pull to bring a lot of folks out to HLSR. Would be great to bring him back to the Rodeo.
I always put Dwight on the end-of-year ballot they send out that asks "who would you like to see play next year." Sometimes I put him 2 or 3 times.

I heard somewhere that HLSR and him got into it the last time he played because he played too long or some crap like that, and that's why he hasn't been back...

I do not follow what you are getting at.

I missed AJ this year....Tim and Brad Paisley were good and saw several others, but I think my favorite was Gary P. Nunn at the Hideout....dance floor was not to crowded, music was not to loud and I had a good time.

bring unto me travis tritt next year.

He and Mark Chesnutt are 2 people who have a lot of hits but you don't know how many until you see them live and are reminded. If they did a 2 show event like the used to do, I'd actually go to the Rodeo.

I remember in HS seeing Martina McBride and Toby Keith (pre-lets get drunk Billy Bob) in one show, then Clint Black and Clay Walker another show.

Jerry Jeff Walker puts on a hell of a show. Pat Green and Cory Morrow together would be sweet. They need to bring Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks. Doubt it will happen, but if attendance records are what they want, those 2 would set it.

Problem with guys like JJW, PG, Cory, REK, etc. is that they really don't do well in places with large crowds - they are the smallish venue masters. Even Willie doesn't do nearly as well at larger venues as he does at something a little more intimate (though he is better than the others).

Like others have said - Rodeo isn't about music, it's about putting people in the seats and bringing them and their money in. Nothing more, nothing less. Most people are like Finn and go for the FGL/Jason Aldean types because that's what's on radio and they don't know any better. And what makes radio is decided by a small group of people that live in a tall skyscraper in Manhatten or some place like that. It simply is what the industry has become.

I"m honestly surprised Alan Jackson was int he lineup. He's badass though, but not nearly on the cutting edge as some of the others in terms of top hits and bringing the younger crowd to the table.

he played until almost midnight if I recall. I was there and it was glorious. Dwight is the best live CW artist there is, or at least that I have seen.

this was his 22nd performance at the rodeo. He doesn't really need to be "cutting edge".

they'll always have one of "him". just like they have nights that cater to particular crowds when not catering to the chart toppers. "country music" is now a niche night. which is always what it's been...the chart toppers just used to not suck so hard.

you know music is in a sad state when you can look back and say "I guess those guys weren't as big of d-bags as I though". at least they, rightly or wrongly, remind me that it's CFB season every Fall Saturday morning.

Alone they don't really have the pull but what if one Saturday night they had Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Clay Walker, and Clint Black all sitting on stools drinking beer and playing music.

I think that would be a HUGE get and think it would be cool to see a couple special collaboration type shows.

Jimmy Buffet/Alan Jackson/Kenny Chesney
A singer songwriter night with REK/Willie/Lyle
Kick arse night with Kid Rock and Hank Williams Jr

Essentially something you can't normally see on a typical tour or show at Toyota Center.

Best performance I've seen was the combo of Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chestnut, and Joe Diffie. It was awesome!

F'ing diffie.

That's show might have held the record for mullet presence on a stage. And mustache too if chestnut would have gotten on the boat.
