Livestock here.

I was curious to see how many here are on a committee and if so, what the different work requirements are and a brief description. I really enjoy my committee and find it interesting to see what other people like about theirs.

Livestock committee people work 4 shifts (5 for rookies) of up to 8 hours spread throughout the rodeo. Little to no work required throughout the year. 800 person committee with a variety of jobs involving the livestock show.

I'm on Merchandise. Apparently I move stuff from inventory areas to various booths and or man the booths. I'm working 5 shifts (I'm a rookie) and I'm actually looking forward to the people watching: first shift is Friday and Usher is performing for Black Appreciation Day.

Basically, I got roped into this because of my wife. No idea what to expect, but like you said, I have no responsibilities during the year...I haven't done anything yet (not even training because they have it on bad nights) but no one seems concerned.

Does a lifetime membership get you into Cookoff for free?

Answered my own question, yes it does.

Almost joined Breeders and Greeters, but decided to go back to school instead. With the time I saved I still haven't taken the GMAT. Productivity!

Speakers Committee. Opportunities to do things year round. Fun group. I mostly do speeches to elementary-aged school kids.

I am not on a committee, but have been considering it. Any advice is welcome.

Also, any advice on finding Jason Aldean tickets this year at face value? Any of the ticket merchants are expensive unless you sit in the nosebleeds.

Poultry Auction Committee

Gotta raise $4k by pre-sale chickens and turkeys or purchase commitments for the auction and run the auction

Judging Contest here.

I don't do much but watch the kids stare at animals and fill in scantrons. That and hang out at our drinking tent before shows.

Sports Medicine Committee

New committee this year that broke away from the Safety Committee. Made up of firefighters/paramedics/nurses/doctors.

We're the front line guys that deal with injured contestants and concert performers if any go down on the dirt.

I am new to Houston and was very involved with the rodeo in high school. Judged several contest and showed animals. I am wanting to get on one of the committees for next years rodeo and would love some advice on the best way to go about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What's the most baller committe to be in? What committess are the likes of Mattress Mack, Olajowaon, Lil Troy, Bun B, and AJ Foyt part of?

BTA, 1st go to HLSR.com and find the committee list that details every committee. Find a few that pique your interest. Then after April or May (can't remember when rodeo year end is) go register as a rodeo member and pay your $50 annual membership fee. After you are a registered member there is a place in the members area where you can preference difference committees of your choosing. Each committee has different new member criteria. Just like every other private organizations in life, some are more difficult to join than others unless you are connected. After you preference your committees the chairman of those committees should contact you and at minimum let you come out to the rookie meet and greet. From there, each committee is different. Some have formal interviews, others just slap you on the back and say welcome and then there's the in between.

All that said, the best way is to know someone already on the committee.

But you have to work during the best part of rodeo

Team penning and ranch sorting. All work is in 3 days, this year it's next sun-mon-tues. We have a few meetings and a fundraiser or two around the rest of the year. Awesome.

This is the first year of the Sports Medicine Committee. They wanted a more focused group for the rodeo contestants, their families and the Bigwigs upstairs.

This is actually my first year being on a committee at all. I was asked to join by the Vice Chairman of the committee. I have work the rodeo before as an on duty medic with the city, working along with the Safety Comm. Safety comm is made up of medics/nurses/docs too but they will now deal with the general public (who are usually dehydrated drunk people).

Too early to know how I will like it, but so far it's good.

Sports Med committee shifts are 4-5 hours long and we work 4-5 shifts. Most other committees have longer and more shifts. At least that's what I've been told.

Mutton Busting had some very nice talent there on Sunday for there rehearsal. I may have to look into that committee next year...

Unless you are connected or talented, you aren't getting on mutton busting.
