As bad as Bottom Line Bud was a LOT of the blame also should go to Bob Lanier. Bud offered to pay a pretty hefty portion of the new stadium tab and help absorb the leftover Dome costs.
Both guys hated each other and thought that the city was their own playground.
In the end we got stuck with a BILLION dollars in new stadium costs and empty dome and OUR original AFL history, which so many of us were part of, GONE. As bad as Bud has been the Titans have been to the Super Bowl, the Texans are in a tailspin with a pig headed clueless head coach and a nice owner.

My dad had season tix to the Oilers for 15 years. I grew up as a kid going to the games. I hated to see them leave the way it went down. And I hated even more the Titans were good a few years after the franchise left Hou.

I got to watch McNair in 1995…his first real game when Chandler went down with an injury (people cheered for that injury back then, too).

My dad got tickets for the only Oilers’ game I’d ever see. We got to see Air McNair play pretty well against the Lions, but were mostly there to see Barry Sanders live.

Why won't he just die already. There has been an empty cot in hell with his name on it for quite a while.

Glad to see I'm not the only who thinks Bob Lanier had the most fault. It should have been clear with teams moving and new stadiums being built something had to be done. Too bad they couldn't work it out as Bud's wants were way cheaper than Reliant and he was going to chip in a significant amount. To me Reliant is proof Bud was right about what was needed.

That doesn't mean Bud wasn't a grade A jerk.

After I graduated from A&M, my first job was at Tuboscope off Holmes Rd near the dome. Pretty scary area. This was 1994-95. After work there was a hole in the wall bar called Tony's, but we all called it the sh@#hole on the other side of 610 near Almeda. Looked like an old vacant house. The Oilers would hang out there too. I got to meet Billy Joe Tolliver, Haywood Jefferies, Bucky (once), Bruce Matthews and some of the other offensive linemen. They would always sit around this big round table and drink and karoke. Bruce Matthews could sing Elvis pretty dang well. Good times at the sh@#hole.

mm98...I was at that game, and for the same exact reason as you. My friend scored some free tickets, so we wanted to see Barry Sanders, Brett Perriman, and Herman Moore. Sadly, couldn't have cared any less at the time about the Oilers leaving.
