What are yours?

In no particular order...

1) The Hartz Chicken in Rosenberg on HWY 36. Went there one Sunday and they were out of chicken. Told me after I paid.

2) Ryan's 'Steakhouse' - any location. All the sides are directly out of a can. The 'steaks' are like eating a shoe.

Any Gringos. How people eat there amazes me.

Mucho Mexico at Wayside/I10. Got sick as a dog there. Food is disgustingly bland, but work partners continue to want to go every Tuesday for $4.99 lunch specials. I walk to Subway on Tuesdays now.

Underbelly. Most overhyped place in Houston. Are restaurant critics for sale?

Hot Biscuit in Porter.....yowza that place is disgusting!

I really wanted to like Underbelly but I have to agree...waaaaay over hyped. Not the worst but a big downer.

For some reason that place has a cult following-- but I agree, it's terrible.

Guess I was part of the cult when I lived in Pecan Grove..... although I always thought it odd that a guy named 'Larry' was on the sign with the words 'Mexican food'.

Larry's is great...for certain things. Great enchiladas, surprisingly awesome French fries, and absolutely the best fountain drink Dr Pepper in the Houston area. Other things, such as their tacos, are horrible.

Larry's is pretty bad, but bad Mexican food is like a staple of the Richmond/Katy area. I can probably name 5 different places on par with Larry's in mediocrity.

Lot of mediocre places in Houston. Most of my list is based on the place being generally unclean as well as food being mediocre. That said, I nominate the following: the old Mai's and House of Pies.

I used to love Mai's at 2 in the morning. Then I went there for dinner sober one night... the food was mediocre and the place was just really dusty and musty. Same goes for House of Pies... their pies might be good, but it always stinks like **** in there when I eat so I have a rough time enjoying dessert in the place.

Last thing, food trucks. I know on this board, there's a general jerkoff fest for them. However, I've found that a lot of them there's really no middle ground. Some of them (Bernie's Burger Bus), put out incredible food. However, the vast majority put out **** for product.

Old Mai's > New Mai's

Agreed 100% about food trucks. The only ones that are worth anything are Bernie's and maybe Eatsie Boys. Maybe the pizza truck in front of Catbirds. Other than that, none of those trucks have food worthy of a brick/mortar location. People just like the idea of getting their food from a truck. I wouldn't mind the trend if the food matched the hype.

I've never been to new Mai's... and probably won't if it is worse than old Mai's.

I know its fast food, so it sucks already but that Latin fired chicken place on Washington that was hyped was one of the biggest let downs. Very bad.

not a mom and pop shops but I hate any applebees anywhere.

I also hate 59 diner.

The Chinese place across from the Rockets parking garage.

I haven't been to either in several years, but Chapultepec and Merida used to give me instant hot lava.

Dont get the hate on Underbelly.

I have been for lunch many times but not dinner. The double cheeseburger is the best burger I have ever had.

Roast beef sandwich is solid. Biscuit and chicken/rabbit gravy was incredible. Gulf fish of the day was prepared perfectly. Shrimp salad and shrip and grits was quality. Pulled chicken salad was delicious.

The place gets a lot of hype and may not be everyone's thing but the food is quality.

Im souring a bit on food trucks (other than bernies). They are almost universally overpriced. Shouldnt the food be cheaper than a brick and morter due to lower overhead?

I still dig eatsie boys, but glad they have a brick & mortar storefront to duck in for some snuggies & shipleys ice cream
