Don't think Pershing sucks. Oldest daughter got a letter informing us about the Vanguard program, we applied and she was accepted. We were so pleased with her education and experience, we followed suit with our other two.

Our oldest is majoring in kinesiology at A&M. She is studying for and will take the GRE in March. She hopes to attend Texas Woman's in the Med Center in the fall of '14.

She may not have directly assisted less fortunate students at Bellaire, but she has been on mission trips and efforts every year since the 5th grade.

I'm not calling anyone a racist. I apologize if it came across that way.

Geop84 FTW!

Buck just got his Houston-hating ass kicked, again. Guy has some weird phobia about Htown, schools or damn near anything...
Very predictable. Tiresome. Often dead wrong.

What's up with the Crossbow character ?
Odd duck....angry!

"I don't think there is any need to attempt to discredit Bellaire by the use of numbers."

I was refuting the ridiculous claim that Bellaire was "far superior" to Memorial. That simply is not true.

BTW, the higher dropout rate at Bellaire no doubt helps those SAT scores stay as high as they are. The dropouts can't drag the test scores down.

Buck and Crossbow,

Both places are good places to live. Crossbow, sounds like you may be trying to justify your decision to move. IMHO. You can get good educations at both places. If I had a mid-range student who would be taking regular classes, Bellaire is not a very good choice. However, if you have a good student who will be taking lots of advanced classes, Belliare is a far superior choice to Memorial. Buck's numbers, National Merit Numbers, number of kids taking/passing AP exams, etc. etc. back that up.

Katy ISD...hands down if you don't mind the drive. At my son's elementary, he is one of 6 white kids in his class out of 27. Very high % of asian and indian. The joke is, Sevenlakes football team sucks, but their math club can kick your math club's ass. The stuff he is doing in the 3rd grade flat out is jaw dropping compared to what I did. Same goes for K classes as well. Memorial is pretty good from what my friends tell me.

I graduated from Memorial.

My brother and sister have gone through hunters creek and one is at spring branch. My mom teaches at Hunters Creek.

I would say that both schools are quite good as the numbers provided earlier showed. In my expirience, if you take all AP, pre-AP classes you will be prepared well for college for math and science (Minus physics which has been weak for years). They have some great teachers there and a good high school engineering program.

Memorial no longer accepts transfers and they might have to redraw lines because of all the families moving to get zoned specifically for Memorial and this has caused a local boom north of I-10. My parents house might have increased in value 100k...

I know for a fact hunters creek is a great school and my mom says that spring valley elementary has improved in a major way over the past 2-3 years. Spring Branch is solid but it feeds into memorial and spring woods and it sounds like its almost two different student bodies attending the same school. They don't like each other and they don't really commingle socially.

I think this will only improve performance because when you have families moving for education their children will usually be pushed to excell versus another ISD where it's less competative.

And Crossbow to answer your question about Pin Oak, it is an excellent school. Many West U parents I know send their kids to Pershing and to Pin Oak as well as Lanier. All three are very solid middle schools. I would say Johnston is medium.

I went to Kolter, Johnston, and Bellaire. Kolter and Bellaire are still great schools. Johnston was on the way down when I was there over 10 years ago, and it's only gone downhill.

Meyerland is too close to S. Fuqua for my liking.
