Wealthy families from Mexico City are just wealthy families from Mexico. You should go to the Lomas area in Mexico City to look for yourself. The Woodlands advertised heavily there should be a sign that it was a target market.

As far as schools my basic advice is to look at the school as if you are the student. As far as HS, do the same and see how many graduating seniors are going to college and which. Then play the odds in your favor.

My son goes to Lamar and we are satisfied so far. His teacher has taught there for 38 years and she exactly what we need. Kids that age only need a good teacher. HS is where you proably need to select better only because the teenage years dictate more in your life than any other, so looking at private options could be better suited then.

My 2 cents.

http://frassaticatholic.org/index.cfm?active=1 - Frassati Catholic High School is scheduled to open in 2013. It will be located just to the east of Gosling on Spring Stuebner.

It is designed to be the Catholic HS for Spring, Klein, Tomball, and The Woodlands.

One big drawback is the traffic on Spring Stuebner, though I think that will improve with the new light at I-45.

So glad to know that someone is happy at Lamar! I think my son would do great with a teacher with 38 years of experience...so far, it seems he really prefers the teachers who have been around the block a few times. I made an offer on a house in Lamar and lost out, and I'm thinking about offering on a different house, also zoned to Lamar.

I heard from my co-workers about Frassati. It sounds wonderful, but I did hear tuition is supposed to be ~$10k. At that rate, I can't afford Creekside/Harris county because the taxes are so much greater than Montgomery Co.

Lamar is only acceptable if your kid is in the IB program. Its really two schools sharing one campus.

What is the IB program? And what two schools are sharing a campus?

What I mean is, there are two very distinct groups of students at Lamar. There are the kids in the IB program that are pretty much all going to college after graduation. Then there are the non-IB kids, most of whom are not.

The IB program is basically how HISD keeps West U parents from completely abandoning public schools in favor of private schools. They created a program where the college-track minority are academically isolated from the majority of typical HISD under-performers.

I meant Lamar Elementary in TW.

I thought you meant Lamar Elem. That is the school zoned for most of the homes I am considering.

I did. My son goes to Lamar Elementary in the TW.

I clarified because of the discussion on the IB program, which I understand is the high school program of Lamar High School, near the Galleria.

I was confused why there was a college track for an elementary school.

So, after losing out on a house zoned to Lamar (Outbid by cash buyers who could close in 2 weeks, and the house was crazy overpriced to begin with), I'm bidding on a (much more reasonably priced) home in Creekside. It's zoned to Timber Creek. I'm not thrilled about being in Harris County, but it's a great house, and I don't want to waste anymore time putting in offers only to get outbid.

Thanks, everyone, for your help! Looking forward to being here full-time!
