My Aggie ring has always been a half size to big. I've never wanted to part with it for long enough to get it re-sized, but after accidentally throwing it off my hand a few times this year I have realized it's time.

I know Balfour has an office in the Galleria area. Has anyone ever dropped it off there to get it re-sized or do I need to mail it off?

Mail it off through the Association. You'll keep the warranty intact and they will do any other work you need for the same price (re-antiqing, etc.). Just make sure you pay for the insurance.

I don't know about you but I have worked hard to wear off the t-sip *******s on the bottom of my ring, and like the dents and wear it has on it now. From what I hear if you send it back they will make it look like new again. Don't know if it is true or not, but I would just go find a good jeweler, preferably an Aggie so they have the same passion for it as you do, and have them re-size it. Then you should have it back the same day too. No telling how long it will take if you send it off.

I needa re-size mine too, but not interested in parting with it for a month or two for Balfour to do an hours worth or work.

Anyone know a reputable place who can do it same day (or in a few days) locally?

Though I am able and willing to size it, the Association can knock it out fast during the summer, and it is free besides paying to ship.

I don't want to send it off to Balfour but I want to keep the warranty on the ring.

How does having the Association send it off work? Would I need to drop if off at the Association bulding next time I'm in C/S?

It's been 5 years of me putting it off, but after throwing my ring off when I was shooting craps I decided it was time lol.

Just mailed mine off to Balfour today to get it refinished back to Natural. Had gotten way too dark for my tastes over the past 12 years.

If you send it to the Association, they just send it to Balfour. This takes even longer.

Balfour quoted me about 2 to 4 weeks to refinish it. Not bad in my book.

Only pay for return shipping and insurance to send it. Very happy with this process.

And you can also request for them to NOT repair any imperfections, dents, nicks, etc. when they either clean it or refinish it.

Nudist is right. I would say the turnaround through you we don't to Balfour and the Association (if you left it with them), is about the same.

A&M is a huge account for Balfour.

Let me add, please, please get it done. It takes longer to order a new one and that foul taste in your mouth will not be one you like.

How much $ to refinish to natural?

I had montelongo's in CS resize mine (bigger). It was fast but my name on the inside isn't as clear anymore and it feels a little thin on the bottom because no gold was added. I kind of want to send it to Balfour and have them make it look right again, possibly take off the antiquing, and add a little gold if necessary.

Chuck, what do you charge for a re-sizing? And is the lack of warranty even that big of a deal?

Not sure they'll work on any rings where the warranty has been voided

I'll pay if I need to. I sure hope they wouldn't say we won't work on it even if I paid..

I just recently got my ring back after Balfour resized it. They refinished the ring too. They did a fantastic job! It looks brand new. I had dropped it off at the Association Ring Office the last time I was in C.S. and was told it would take about 2-4 weeks. I got back the ring in less than 2 weeks.

I believe you can drop it off at the Houston Balfour office and they then ship it to the office that does our rings.

All you pay to get the ring resized and refinished, is the cost of shipping which was about $30. Well worth it plus by going through Balfour you keep your warranty intact.

You can refinish going from natural to antique, but not the other way around. If you want to go from antique to natural, you must purchase a new ring. All this info is on aggienetwork.com in the Aggie Ring section...

Actually, one clarification after I reread my own damn link...

To go from antique to natural, you must pay for a remake, which is significantly less in cost than a new ring. $75 ish depending on karat.
