Man I remember hitting up Cabo quite often back in 2001 when we interned for Arthur Anderson before the Enron scandal.

That whole post was like a mini trip back in time.

I go downtown about at least once a week, and still can't believe how much of the area shuts down as soon as the "work day" is over.
Now that Cabo is closed what is next longest tenured restaurant/bar?
Saucer has been around for 11 years.

La Carafe has the Saucer beat by about 50 years.

At least Frank's Pizza is still going strong.

Ok.

I haven't been DT in a while (like everyone else, it got too thugged out to have a good time), so I don't know if any of these places are still around:

State Bar?
Slainte?

It is a shame that in only 10 years since the Super Bowl, DT nightlife went from the best place in town to a ghost town.

that's how it goes. Clubs/restaurants move to where rent is reasonable for their business model - so they chase new parts of town & reasonable rents. "Hot" parts of town have been on Richmond strip, midtown, Washington Ave, downtown, it's always moving around....next areas will be who knows?

State Bar is still there, not sure about the other place

Also have a rental place in EaDo, so good to hear that more things are going in over there.

Living and working downtown. Granted, these may not be crowded after 5:00 or on the weekends, but these are some of my favorite places downtown.

Looking forward to the new place at Byrd's.
Niko Nikos is open every day (I think) at Market Square.
Ziggy's is okay if you don't have any other options.
S&T Restaurant on Main/Texas is solid.
Convey (new sushi place) is good.
State Bar is one of my favorite bars.
McElroy's Pub on Main

there are decent choices, but it really empties out on the weekends. downtown is a ghost town after working hours.

I'm living in Humble Tower (Dallas and Main) and love it. I don't see why it's a big deal to drive 3 minutes to midtown or 5 minutes to Neartown or the Heights when I want to go out. It's a lot easier than driving in to go to work every single day during rush hour. Plus, PoPo does an excellent job of keeping the area feeling safe even with all of the homeless people.

I'm on 3 with the supply chain folks...next to the microwave/coffee break area.

I was surprised recently to see how many North Downtown establishments are closed now. So much for the renaissance.

Downtown used to be great ... Slainte, State Bar, Dean's Credit Clothing, Hub, and so on.

However, this was before the light rail construction starved a lot of bars (especially Slainte) of business for many months and let's face it, the youth demographic that all the huge companies downtown employed is no longer there; and so the entertainment has also "moved out". OTOH, Washington seems to have picked up a lot of the slack, for better or for worse.

Que? Washington is a crappy stretch of derelict building in case you haven't driven down it lately. There's nothing to do on Washington. HTMFH!

Did all those bars on Washington close? if so, that was FAST.

Too bad about cabo. Warrens, state bar, la carafe, cabo and swank (along with the tapas place) were all in the weekly rotation in my younger and single days.

Wish they would open a Treebeard's in the Midtown/Heights area. Seems like it would kill it.
CATAGBQ04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, that

But they'd have to break their lunch on weekdays only thing and serve booze.
Charles Bronson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
True. Thought I heard someone say they tried to open one outside of DT a long time ago and that it failed. Would love to see one on White Oak or Washington that serves beer and maybe even liquor. Guess BB's wouldn't be too happy w/ a White Oak location. BB's might be better all around, I've only had the gumbo and RB&R w/S&C at Treebeard's. Everything I have had at BB's has been money. Still no Coop's Place though.

I went to power tools ages ago. Remind me where it was located again?

Power Tools became the Pink Elephant. Underneath the Brewery Tap in the old Magnolia Brewing building on Franklin. Just off of Market Square. Great place to score X in the bathrooms, if you were into that sort of thing.

Has anyone tried the new Phoenicia Specialty Foods downtown? I went for lunch twice this week. It was great. They have extended hours and a bar on the second level.
