I haven't had many good experiences going out to eat around here. We have some friends coming into town and want a good atmosphere, maybe some good mexican food. Ideas?

touche on Chilis. try their Paradise Pie, it is heavenly. Whenever i visit a new place i am relieved to find Chilis there.

What about Los Alamedas? They used to be very popular when they were on IH 10. Haven't heard too much about them since they opened up in Cinco Ranch. Probably a little pricey.

Fazoli's on Fry Rd for fine Italian dining. Their meatball sandwich is unreal. Just unreal.

Hasta la Pasta (awesome tomato basil soup)

for dessert - there's Oh La La on CR Blvd.

La Finca is also good, although some of it's other locations aren't.

If you are looking for atmosphere and Mexican, Las Alamedas. It has atmosphere, but I have not dined at LA in years.(Bingle/Voss location). Food was ok, over priced.
Los Cucos good food.
Black Walnut Cafe on Cinco Blvd.
Perry's in Lacentera. Steak and Chops.
Hooter's has REAL NICE atmosphere, food sucks.
Also, try Ray's Grill in Fulshear. Website is same name. Atmos. & Top Rated Chef food

The wife and I usually drive the short distance to Fulshear and eat at either Dekker's or Ray's Grill. You can't go wrong with either.

La Finca is a pile of grease, I also find it odd that they give you your food 5 minutes after you place the order.

La Finca is solid but let's face it, Mexican food is generally the same four or five ingredients in every dish they serve.

Taco Bell has made millions repackaging said ingredients.

I'm also not a fan of La Finca. It's kind of the Chilis of Mexican food.

I've got to try this Tacos La Balla place. Taco Grill down Mason is pretty good too.

I refuse to order my main meal at La Finca prior to getting my drink and chips/salsa because if I don't slow it down, I would have my food prior to those showing up.

Good descriptions on La Finca. Good for when you are in a serious hurry and the kids are cranky. VERY FAST! I prefer El Rancho for my "cheap" Texmex now...
