Trying to meet relatives halfway...they are in kingwood...we are near 290. Looking for good Mexican food that isn't pappasitos and isn't panchos or los cucos. TIA.

Guess I should have read in the OP when he said no Pappasitos. Oops.
Pappasitos has good food, but I only get to see these relatives once a year amd would like to eat somewhere that conversation is possible. If pappasitos would ever decide to stop setting their speakers to stun such that people could talk and eat at their restaurants, they would get a lot more of my business.

Its Lupe Tortillas, its the crack of mexican food. and there is one on 249 as well
been going to El Imperial for 20 years, about a mile west of 45 on 1960
El Imperial! I used to go with my uncle years ago, but I couldn't remember the name.
Wolfie's at 1960 and Veteran's is pretty much the best all-around restaurant you're going to find in that area, and they've got tacos and burritos and *****like that.
I would avoid Los Cucos on 249.

Are you willing to venture a bit north of 1960 on I45? Several good places up north of Spring.

Lupe Tortilla's sucks and is over-priced.
I'm not sure most would consider it good, but Gringo's is relatively cheap.
I love the baked poblano at Cilantro Cocina on the NW corner of 1960/45.
i despise lupe and their GD thick tortillas. it's like they wrap their enchiladas in pita bread.

Cilantro's at 45 and 1960 is decent. Donaraki used to be pretty good too but I haven't been in years.
Don't understand the Pappasito's hate It is the best TexMex in town bar none. And it's Aggie owned.
Pappasito's if one must go chain. I would follow that with Lupe. No other reaonable options come to mind unless we're inside 610.

My issues are:
a) it's ridiculously overpriced
b) noise levels on par with an A-10 strafing run
i will give them their seafood enchiladas are the absolute shizz.
just as el tiempos crab enchiladas are money.
