And I believe Dave was wearing that same shirt in 1998 when I chatted him up a bit at Kay's

Bob Allen looks like he crushed a lot of @ss. Like if George Strait had a black sheep brother who liked to spend his nights on the weekends tooting blow off strippers at Treasures...or whatever the hot t*tty club was back then.

Bob kind of looks like he could be in some Laredo Heat pictures or possibly have on pointy boots.

Reminds me of an old Rick Perry campaign poster.

quote:
Ed Brandon was the low-key, avuncular nice-guy weatherman for Channel 13 forever, it seemed. Everyone loved him; he was the guy next door.

Except for the part where he was a coke addict and someone who allegedly liked to videotape himself having sex. For a while, it seemed every cop reporter in town was offered a chance to look at HPD's collection of Brandon sex tapes. The weatherman denied a claim by a man who said he had been sexually assaulted by Brandon, and no charges were ever filed.

Brandon didn't talk about the sex, but he did talk about the drugs when he retired awhile back.

I went to the University of Texas. At the University of Texas in the '60s in Austin, you drank and you smoked grass. That's the way you lived. It was normal; that was life, especially in the circles I was in. And I did that, too; and I did it socially, just like everybody else. And then I came to Houston, and I started using cocaine. And I was one of the people who are not able to stop doing it once they start doing it. And I developed a really serious addiction to cocaine.
Or his alleged addiction to taping himself having sex, it seems.

my wife openly admits that marvin zindler was the first 'celebrity' she ever saw in person. I still laugh at her when she does it.

do news personalities count as celebs?

Charles, do you own that shirt? If so, I'll expect you to be wearing it at the next Bubba's outing or wherever else we go with G$ and the gang.

I couldn't have been the only here who saw his baton-twirling act at halftime of our game at Rice in 1993. It was stellar.

didn't see him at Rice twirling, but I saw him and Calvin doing a twirl competition of sorts somewhere...maybe a parade. Hell I can't remember, but it was awesome.

edit...it may have been at a Rockets game way back when...

Not sure where to put this. It doesn't really need its own thread, but did you know Marvin was on Letterman back in the day? Complete with a twirling exhibition at the end?

This is outstanding. One face of the Houston version of Mount Rushmore.

Bob Allen was married to Jan Glenn of 'Good Morning Houston' fame for a good while.

I was explaining to my teenaged son the other day when we were at the Rockets game how Calvin Murphy is big into twirling. I guess that was a thing back in the day.

I worked at Sweetwater Country Club and toted Marvin's golf bag once. He had one of those Fiero Pace Cars and was wearing pink golf pants and a white shirt and hat. I picked him up and brought him around to the carts and he gave me $20. At the end of the day, I loaded him up and drove him back around to the car. We got to talking about the car and he asked me if I wanted to drive it, so I said sure, and we drove up to 59 and back down to First Colony Boulevard, just talking like we'd known each other for years and when we pulled up in front of the club, he gave me $50.

That was a hell of a day for 16 year old me. $70 bucks and a drive with Marvin Zindler in his Fiero.

Well, at first he asked me if I had managed to get in to Rick's Cabaret yet, and he went on and on about this redhead there with great t*ts. I figured I was safe from anything weird at that point.
