Early morning lawn crews question

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Two of my neighbors have lawn crews that get there at 7am...actually this morning one of them was there before 7am. This is getting ridiculous. I took this to our HOA meeting about a year ago and they said there was really nothing they could do.
I now have a 3 month old and these mexicans woke him up this morning. I was so po'd.

I did see one of our HOA board members walking her dog this morning as I left the house and asked her about it. She agreed and was going to take it to the board. I suggested that the HOA send a letter to the homeowners to see if they would discuss with their lawn service.

Any other suggestions? Anyone know the number for ICE that I could call and have them come out that early?

Anyone else have this problem? My yard guy comes after noon each Thursday...wish I could push my neighbors to hire him instead.

I doubt there is much you can do. The guys are trying to make a living and most likely work from 7am til dark. It's unfortunate they come that early but if it is the first yards on their route then that's how it plays out. What's next, they start coming in the afternoon and your kid's afternoon nap?

Parents with young kids, why do they all expect the world to bend around them?

If you're in Houston, noise ordinance prohibits that type of noise before 7:00am. If they're starting at 7:00, though, you may be out of luck.

Why do lawn care services mow the lawn after 4pm? I'm at home and trying to relax after working all day. It's ridiculous!

I'd find out what the noise ordinance hours are for your area. Just like a non-stop barking dog late at night or early in the morning, I would think you could call the non-emergency police line if someone is mowing before 7am if that happens to be your cutoff time. If they are starting at 7 and that's your cutoff time, there isn't anything you can do.

My husband often cuts our grass at night in the last few weeks just because our weekend mornings have been crazy busy, but he's always sure to be done before 8pm because I think that's when ours starts. It might be 9pm, but he wouldn't mow that late out of courtesy.

Grin and bear it.

Get the baby in a earlier routine.

7am, as much as I hate it, is daytime hours.

If it's really making that much noise you should have your windows replaced.

This applies to dog owners as well.

I'll bite...

I usually don't give two craps about neighbor noise, or much else going on in my hood to where I'd go say something, but when my daughter was 3 months old the guy that lives down the street (single divorced) was in his garage working on his 4 wheelers with his HS age son at 915pm, I did. He was constantly revving the hell outta the motor and it was waking my daughter up. I went and talked to him and was polite and he apologized and we've never had the problem again. I don't care that he rides the 4 wheelers through the street but most level headed people can work these things out.

Let me guess...your yard guy doesn't have to worry about ICE? He also probably charges more which is why your neighbors don't use him. Most people I know will hire the cheapest crew/neighborhood kid they can find if all they need is the grass cut (they still have to do a decent job of course).

Like everyone has said, if he's there around 6:55ish or 7, just suck it up. or move out farther away from civilization if you can.

And it doesn't matter if it's your 3 month old or you trying to take a nap, you likely won't get any pity from anyone if it's just landscaping crews out there. If it's someone building something in their house or backyard or loud music, then yeah, you may have an argument.

And I bet your yard guy has other customers that he goes too at other times. Gasp what a shocker.

IIRC our HOA says 7AM is the earliest they can do the lawn stuff and you can bet they're there at 7AM to get started.

I got laid off about a month ago and am waiting for my new job to start in July. I am trying to enjoy my Law and Order reruns all day at home and nap. Why do these GD lawn crews feel the need to mow between the hours of 7 am and dark? Why can't they mow at night? We live by the train and most people can sleep through some night noise around here. Inconsiderate jerk lawn crews.

Come on man, 7am is starting time for construction and labor crews. Always has been. Sucks your neighbors are first on their daily run, but such is life. If you are in the city of Houston, then 7am is the end of noise ordinance for the night.

When I worked construction, in the summer we would pour concrete early in the morning to avoid the heat and not keep everyone out there all night. Sometimes people would call the cops and they would just ask that we not do it so early, but understood we didn't have much choice.

Does the neighbor who works graveyard shift and sleeps during the day have a right to complain that your yard man comes right in the middle of his rest time, or that Your wife has your screaming baby out playing in the yard during the day, or that she slams her minivan doors all day on her trips to and from the store?

Suck it up. If the sun is out, let them work. Try waking your kid up in the morning and putting it down at night earlier. I don't know of many babies that age that sleep past 6 am anyways.

Suggestion - Ask you neighbor to tell the crew to come at a different time.

Wow, what a bunch of comments. I am definitely in the minority here.

OK, I do not live within the city limits of Houston. I still don't think people should expect most normal people to be up and out of bed by 8am. I have more respect for my neighbors than that.

For the ASSumptions from ccoolley68,
No, we don't have a mini van, no around me works a midnight shift, we are not outside with a screaming baby. Our baby wakes up during the night...so yep, he tends to fall back asleep around 5~6am.

As for both ccoolley and MBL, do you have a lack of reading comprehension skills or lack of math skills? 3 month old...I went to HOA about a year ago... This isn't just about a baby.

strohag, How do you know this yard crew works from 7am until dark? Could be they are starting at 7am to beat the heat. I have no problem with them coming in the afternoon.

ruSal..my yard guy charges $30/yard...I doubt any of the other yard crews are beating that or beating it by much. He may very well be illegal..but he isn't coming to do yards before or at 7am. I wasn't asking for pity. Just asked if anyone else had the same problem and what they did about it.

When I used to do my yard myself, I never did it before 8am or after 7pm...just respected my neighbors too much for that. Guess no one else does.

I mow my own yard and as long as I'm not hungover, I am outside at starting the engines at 7:10.
The garbage trucks also are in the neighborhood at this time as well.

It's Houston. It's hot. I wouldn't want to mow lawns during the heat of the day either.

And I'd do anything to get my kiddo to sleep past 7:00 am.

Coffee in the bottle to keep her up later, foil on the windows to keep the room dark in the morning.

He goes to sleep around 8:00 and wakes up by 6:00. It's fine during the week when we have to get up early for work, but I wish he'd sleep in a bit later on the weekends.

Get used to it, they don't usually gain the ability to vary sleep schedules till probably about 10 years or later.

This only bothers me on the weekends when neighbors who mow their own lawn are out at 7 am on Sat or Sun morning. My rule is always after 9 on weekends. Weekdays I see sunrise as fair game.

Most normal people are up, out of the house, and on the way to work by 8 am.

If you don't believe that just get in the car and try to make it anywhere on any freeway in less than 20 mins at 8 o'clock on a weekday.

Take July 5th off and get out and start mowing your yard at 5:30 am while he's trying to fight off a hangover and get ready for work.

Maybe a white noise CD in the baby's room to drown out the outside noise? It worked like a charm for us when our daughter was a baby.

how come no one has mentioned getting the baby a sound machine???

i dont know anything about fixing the mowing problem, but this can fix the waking baby problem. yard guys used to come in middle of day when 9 m/o cousin took a nap and didnt wake him up as he had his sound machine.

edit- there we go springtx. us spring folk have some great ideas

Because I know a guy who owns a lawn service/landscaping business. These guys are busy literally from 7am til dark. You don't make a ton of money running a business by scheduling people here and there. These guys are on routes and schedules in order to maximize revenue. The more yards they fit into a day, the more money they make. Its simple. You are complaining about nothing. I'd say 95% of the people on this board live in a neighborhood where a lawn crew is starting at 7am. This is manual labor. They really aren't beating the heat by starting that early right now. I am in construction and my crew is already sweating their butts off at 7am on my jobsite here in Houston. Those guys out there sweating their butts off cutting your neighbors grass are supporting a family at home too.

+1

F-ing A! Dude, just politely ask your neighbor to have the guys start later.

Why don't you work on a solution rather than ICE, HOA, the city, or Texags?
