Exact same thing going on in Oak Forest.
One would be stupid to argue that OF hasnt seen significant improvement over the last decade. I was just responding to the claim that there are "no signs of improvement" in Sherwood.

I HAVE spent some time in Sherwood Oaks. Did I personally witness any drive-by's or burglaries? No... but you are absolutely right... stats don't lie. And, while I won't say they don't exist, if you are zoned to a school where 75-80% of it are Title 1 kids, you're not in a safer situation than you'd be in in Oak Forest. Is it away from the inner-city? Sure, but you've still got poverty surrounding the area... I don't have them in front of me, but I'd bet lots of money that break-ins on homes and cars aren't much different in SO than OF.
Overall demographics in the area around Sherwood Oaks aren't really much different than that of Pasadena or Glenbrook Valley yet you REALLY think it's that much safer? You're kidding yourself dude.
Overall demographics in the handful of apts maybe. Overall demographics in Acres Homes a stone's throw away from OF and GO are similar to 5th Ward or Compton. I am glad that they dont feed into the elementary school in OF, but give me a few barrio apts any day if we are only talking about crime. I realize that my odds are good in OF or the Heights and would love to buy a home there as soon as I can. If I feel that it's not a safe place for kids to play outside unattended then when they are a certain age (if i ever have kids) we will probably move a bit out west. Most likely not to Sherwood.

That said, Spring Branch in that area south of I-10 is a bit of a different story.
Thornwood Elementary just across I-10 isnt much better as it is almost exclusively fed into by the surrounding apts, much like Sherwood. That being said, the neighborhoods south of I-10 along Kirkwood are probably pretty similar to Sherwood Oaks...almost no one in that neighborhood sends their kids to Sherwood anymore. There have been talks of demolishing the apts on Sherwood Forest for years and several homeowners in the area i have talked to, believe its only a matter of time. That is one of the reasons i would keep an eye on the area as i was originally saying.
