Does anyone here live in Magnolia and commute downtown? What route do you take and how long does it take you?

I moved from Cypress to Magnolia this year. I work at Beltway 8 and 290 and I spend about 30 min longer in the car. It's a longer drive, but it's nice getting away from 290.

I pity anyone trying to come down 249 before the tomball bypass...

This...

I just moved from High Meadow Ranch late this summer, commute to the Gallaria. It takes longer to get from Willowbrook Mall to Magnolia than it did the Gallaria area to Willowbrook. An hour with zero traffic, 1 1/2 most days with 2 hour commutes if someone farted on the way home. Lord help you if the light at Boudreaux is flashing.

I would assume the "Best" route, depending upon time, to downtown would be 249 to BW8 to the Hardy. The BW @ 45 heading east stacks up pretty easily. The key would be to leave EARLY, before 5:45AM.

If you work down town you need to change jobs. Why throw away 4-hours of your life every day for work?

That or skip the magnolia move.

We no longer schedule meetings before 9am because of the Magnolia commuters in our office. Never fails that they are caught in something nasty on the freeway, making them late as hell for work.

Just moved to GleannLoch from Champion Forest and still avoid SH 249 inbound in the morning at all costs.

Old Louetta/Cutten/Shell Station Cut-Through FTW.

my dad drives into downtown one day a week for meetings from magnolia. i think he just goes 249/BW/290/10..

but he doesn't leave until probably 9, and comes back at 3 or 4, so I don't think traffic is much an issue at that time.

I did it for 2+ years and I'll be doing it again come July. Except I commuted to the Texas Medical Center.

The fact of the matter is that it's a suck-ass commute. I lived a little north of Magnolia so I usually went 1774-249-Beltway-45-288. It took about an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes each way, depending on what time it was when I left the house and what time I was going home.

All I can say is I hope to be long gone from my native Houston in 10 years. Per The Houston Chronicle about a month ago, Magnolia/Tomball's population is estimated to double in the next 10 years and TxDot has no $$ to finish the 249 project.

It will be the suck!!

ugh, not sounding too good. In Cypress currently and definitely don't want a worse commute. Looking at High Meadow Estates, so commute would be straight down 149/249 (and then maybe the 249 Park & Ride into downtown). Have to stay pretty far out of town due to acreage requirements.

I'm seriously considering the park and ride next time. I really wish I could read on the bus

It's a long drive (especially to TMC). Like the others have said, it's the worst getting from Magnolia to where the freeway starts.

1488 construction will be mostly done within the year. If we want to get deep into Houston, we'll usually take that to I-45.

We have a Chicken Express too, BTW.

My mom boycotted BBQ Hut for about 3 years because they ran out of potatoes every time she went there.

I just talked to a friends dad, and he takes Nichol Sawmill/Roberts Cemetery to 2920, then Mueschke or Cypress Rosehill to 290.

He says it takes a few minutes longer than 249/Beltway/290, but there are less cars. Just get some books on tape, and maybe learn a foreign language or two.

+1 for me, I can't imagine wasting that much of my day sitting in my car.

I think the real question here is, if you work downtown how did it even occur to you to live in Magnolia? Still trying to wrap my head around that one. Seems like whatever benefit you might be getting from living there would be outweighed by the commute

i'd live west if you had to have land, AND work downtown.

Well that will take care of the 1st month, but what does he do the rest of the year?

Grand PKWY might be done by then though, that would clean up 249 a lot I think as a lot of people will hit that at boudreaux. you can get to katy in 20 min. from there.
