He repeatedly said that Oklahoma State was just a no name, low Big 12 school that Dana Holgorsen will never get any recognition. He thinks if Dana wants a launching platform for his career as a big time coach (be it a coordinator or HC), he needs to be at a big time program like Texas and get out of OSU.

That's paraphrased of course, but you get the picture. I wonder how he can honestly take himself seriously while staring at his Southwest Texas degree hanging on his wall and not knowing what his own dick even looks like because he hasn't seen it around his own fat rolls in about 20 years.

i tend to agree. they will get whoever they want. and, if they make a wise choice, it's bad news bears for the rest of us. a great OC can basically staple them to the top of the rankings indefinitely.

Yeah I believe a few head coaches, specifically Stoops, just s*** the bed with the firing/reassigning of GD. Stoops had more success than anyone in the Big 12 in slowing a GD coached offense. I personally would love to see Holgerson, but that's a pipe dream IMO.

Don't forget A&M recruited the same in Reggie, just turned out better for Texas.

I don't necissarily think that on OC is going to fix their problems. Gilbert still sucks donkey peen, they have no proven receivers, and their offensive line isn't very good. A good OC may call a few different plays to mask some of this, but good teams will still take advantage.

I would say it would make a huge difference, they have high quality skill position players and their OL, while much maligned, were all highly rated. Now I will agree rating services don't mean s*** however there is no way Texas or any school would swing and miss as much as Texas has the last 6 years on OL.

Look what DeReuter did for your defense, it is lacking in overall talent, but he was able to the players in position to make plays, that's all this new OC has to do. Look at the talent and develop a gameplan to the strengths of that talent.

they have talent, there is really no denying that. the right coach can make a pretty big impact pretty quickly. look at what Dee-rooter did for our d. we had some scattered talent and some servicable players. we're nowhere close to perfect this year, but we're leaps and bounds beyond anything we have seen in the last 7+ years.

Agree to a certain extent on our defense. I certainly love Deruyter and was he has done for us, but we didn’t really lose anyone of significance off of last year’s team so everyone on our defense basically got a year under their belt and got better. Plus our position coaches have also been really good. Deruyter just put them in the right scheme to be able to make the plays. Our guys made the plays this year.

Greg Davis, while he is hated by so many of your fans, had you guys playing in the NC last year and won you one in 2005. He didn’t all of the sudden just get dumb overnight. At some point it’s on the players. Sure they’re highly rated, but it’s also a case where Mack is offering some of these guys so damn early that they could be peaking too soon. I mean Gilbert was supposed to be the next greatest thing since sliced bread and the #2 QB in the nation this year. Look, I agree, however he was under fire in 2003 and was damn near fired then if you believe everything you read. I am not suggesting he is horrible, he needed to move on and Texas needs a fresh approach to the offense.

Secondly, I keep hearing fans of other team reference that Texas offers these players early and they commit so soon. A&M, OU, Tech, etc. all have offers on these same players and would take their commitments in February much like Texas does. I would agree with you on recruiting if every other school wasn't recruiting and looking for commitments from these same players. Also Mack has always done this and won 10 games per season, I don't think it just blew up on him overnight.

Greg Davis offense was not bad. He is the scape goat for bad play by bad players. His offenses are constantly ranked high. The issue is turnovers by the limp wristed qb this year and a lack of running game.

The sip media spin will not let the names of people that turn down the oc job there be leaked. They have internal issues in that locker room that are going to affect their oc search. In this instance I do not believe throwing $ at someone is going to automatically get them whomever they want.

To me the bad play by the players are on the coach. Plus Greg Davis never really had a good running game against good defenses unless VY was under center. Go back and look at the play of Benson against a good D, he was terrible, to me that is all scheme.

Again, that falls back on the position coaches to coach them up which is the point that I made earlier. We're getting a lot more out of our 2 and 3 star guys like Demontre Moore, Steven Campbell, Dustin Harris, Terrance Fredrick, Michael Hodges, Garrick Williams than you guys are getting out of your 4* and 5* players.

And that's why Mac McWhorter is going to be out as well as the WR coach, it's total system failure and is being flushed, Davis isn't the only coach going.

I agree that a good OC can come in and fix texas' problem fairly quickly.

Asst. Head Coach Major Applewhite
Assoc. Head Coach Mac McWhorter (assuming he isn't fired)
Asst. Head Coach Duane Akina (defense guy, but probably higher ranking)

And no, I did not make up those titles. So what's the sales pitch? "Hey, Dana, you did a great job at OSU working for Gundy, why not leave that division winner behind and come over here and coach our sub. .500 team where instead of answering to one guy you'll have to answer to five?.....heck, if you are lucky maybe we'll even let you have some meaningless title to make you feel better about your position in life..."

They have a bit more talent on defense, but still not many real football players. I'd take our LB corps in a split second over theirs....same with the safeties. I like Williams and he'd compete for starting time with us, but rumor is he is jumping ship. Their DL has a player here or a potential player (fish) there, but the unit as a whole is very underwhelming...

I don't know if you blame it on the perception of Rivals stars, poor player development or both, but the bottom line is that this is the most untalented sip team to take the field since Route 66.

i'm sure it's a pretty healthy combination of both. i still maintain that there is a lot of individual talent [more than our roster], but that talent has not manifested itself in the team.

i kind of tend to look at it as somewhat of an analog to BCG coaching at A&M and KY. He was able to get a better product out of blue-collar guys at A&M than a highly regarded roster at KY. i don't know whether that happens because it takes a completely different style of coaching to deal with those two scenarios or if, moreso than having talent, it's having talent that plays well together.

sherm has done a pretty dang good job of getting guys to play above their level [or their perceived level, anyway]. and given that success, he will have to do less of that as we start to fill in the talent gaps where they exist.

i guess all that to say, you need to have the right talent and a good fit w/ the coaching staff to bring everything together...and i'm not sure if ut's issue is the former, the later or both.
