How many 7th grade FB coaches do we have on here?

On a positive note, people do not play both ways now, so more people play.

Really? Why is this?

That kind of sucks for the good players.

Talked to my son and the QB last night (they are friends and I know him and his family - played with them last fall).

They both said the coach seems to think that each player can only have ONE position. Since my son is the 2nd QB, that's all he can be and apparently he can only play in games with the entire 2nd team Offense and never with the 1st team.

So I told my son what everyone else suggested, just talk to the coach, tell him you want to play and you'll play any position b/c you feel like you can help the team. Don't ask to stay at QB or any other position, just play whever he will let you play. Center, guard, CB, whatever he will let you do, DO, do it well and hustle.

At this point I think I'll let him try to work it out on his own rather than interfere. I just get the feeling I'll be doing more harm than good at this point.

It is pretty stupid to have a reserve 2 string team in 7th grade B football. I was on the A team and our backup QB played starter WR. We played both ways, and we were a big city school.

My back-up QB gets plenty of time at defense and is about to my TE. If I can help it, the back-up QB rarely ever plays unless both are of equal ability.

Looking at the positions the kids play, and realizing that no one who starts on offense starts on defense and vis-a-versa, it's the only explanation.

Why else would you put the fastest kid on the team on the sidelines for all but 2-plays of the game?

In fairness to the coach, there are 50-kids on the team so trying to make sure everyone gets a few plays means he kinda has to do this. That being said, it's 7th grade, to me it's about time they start learning about winning and losing and the players who give the team the best chance to win are going to play.

Note that on the A-team this is not the case. Lots of kids have starting spots on one side, and back up spots on the other side. At least one WR rotates in/out on offense, but starts on defense. But then they only have about 30-players (although not for long since grades just came out!).

What kind of BS are they doing these day? It is not pee wee football anymore. We had guys that played the whole game in 7th and 8th A team. The B team had about 70 players and I am pretty sure the majority didn't even play in games.

Football is about the only sport without tryouts, but that does not mean you will actually get to play in a game.
