Driving to Houston over the weekend to visit family. Does anyone know if my Dallas TollTag will work on the Sam Houston Tollway?

TIA!

from nctra.com

Are NTTA TollTags or TxTags accepted?

Yes. All Harris County toll road lanes designated with an EZ TAG sign will also accept your TxTag or NTTA TollTag for payment.

For questions about your NTTA account, please visit www.ntta.org. For questions about your TxTag account, please visit www.txtag.org.

YOU'D HAVE to look around on dallas' toll website to see if it works the other way around, but presumably it does.

All TxTags, TollTags and EZ Tags are interoperable with each other. Thank you TransCore for making this possible.

We learned something about toll tags a couple of weeks ago. If you have visitors coming into town, you can get online and temporarily add their car to your account so they can zip through the EZ tag lanes without a tag. It's billed to your account and can be used for anything from a day or two to up to a month(I think). All they need is the make and model of the car and it's plate. We use it when family comes to visit, since the beltway is the easiest way to our house.

log into your account, I know for houston there are check boxes that allow/not allow for dallas, airport ect...so make sure settings are in place but yes it does work.

How come Houston dosen't get with the program and get the cameras that just take a picture of your plates and mail you a bill for 25 cents more if you don't have an ez tag instead of giving you a 40 dollar ticket or however much it costs....Dallas and Austin have gotten with the program!

it's called EZ plate. they've been doing it for quite some time now.. great for rentals as well.

however, they can only go through ez tag only. if they come to an exit that doesn't have an ez tag only, they have to pay. or more specifically, ez plate doesn't raise up the arms. so they can only go through an armless (which should be ez tag only) entrance or exit.

they do have cameras. they charge you the toll cost plus an 'administration fee' of $10 or $20 or however much it is.

does austin/dallas just charge you the toll cost with not fee?

honestly i'd rather keep it how it is, it gives an incentive for these people to get ez tag. if they can just go through with no reprocusion, they'll never get a tag.. and all the congestion at toll plazas are all the fools that don't have a tag.

I honestly don't understand people who don't have toll tags.

Does Houston still charge for ez tags? I have my NTTA tag and I've never bothered to get a EZ tag. I know when I was in high school HCTRA used to charge an annual fee but you got a break on your tolls. In Dallas you just load up your account (no fee) and still get a break on tolls.

NTTA was working towards removing all toll booths across the city and making the whole thing toll tag or cameras.

the tag itself is like $15, but you save a quarter. so after 60 tolls, you break even.

i wish they didn't have toll plazas at all. just entrance and exit tolls. most of traffic on beltway stems from those big ass toll plazas that go from 4 lanes to 12 lanes back to 4 lanes.. what a dumb ass idea.

Does HCTRA still auto-renew?

Thanks, just logged into my account at NTTA to make sure the Houston box was checked. Hopefully I'm good to go now.

From what I have heard you can just go through them, because all they have is ez tags, and if you don't have a tag they just charge you an extra 25 cents per toll and send you a bill at the end of the month.

Personally I don't care either, I have an ez tag, but it sure would make things easier when people come to town and don't have one. Then maybe they could go down on the toll fee since they won't have to pay those overweight people to sit on their arse all day!
