No problem. If you have any questions, just post in the Real Estate forum, and we'll help you there. Good luck. Your wife said you work at Vacations To Go, I interviewed with them after college but decided on different career. I may have to get with you on something. Wife and I still haven't taken our "honeymoon" yet. Won't be any time soon since we had a baby last month though. Oh well.

That's awesome! I went to high school with Tow Down's cousin, and actually went to his house one time. I'm not really sure why... But he did have a pretty bad ass recording studio.

Live in Meyerland just north of Westbury. Agree with all the posters about Parker being fine as a school and Johnston being ok. I know of only a few families sending their kids to Westbury. Maplewood Pool is a great pool in the neighborhood and is a great way to get to know other families. Marilyn Estates and Barkley Circle are nice pools also, just a lot smaller. We also really enjoyed Westbury Little League as a great place to meet people. OVerall, I think Maplewood is a great buy.

I live in Pearland so I can't really comment on how living in the area is, but my children attend St. Thomas More Catholic School on Hillcroft, just north of Willowbend. I drop them off right about 7:00am and am at work near the Galleria by 7:20 at the latest. The drive is not bad at all that time of morning.

Unfortunately, the houses we looked at were all in the not-so-nice areas of Westbury. We could definitely see a difference when we went North of West Bellfort.

Thanks for all the advice!

There's a house that just went for sale on Atwell right at the intersection of Briarbend, in case you were still thinking of the area. I think the sign went up Friday or Saturday. When I go by there later today, I'll try to get an address for you. I'll keep looking to see if any more signs pop up, in case you're still interested in the area.

EDIT: 10723 Atwell is the house that's for sale in the area. It's about ten houses down from Parker Elementary, but on the other side of the street.

We've lived in Westbury for 6 years and love it for many of the reasons listed above. We are fortunate in that our little enclave is zoned to Kolter elementary and Bellaire HS. We are zoned to Johnston for middle school but given the aforementioned schools, I think we come out ahead on the school side of things. The area has continued to improve since we moved in with the S. Post Oak strip getting somewhat better. I still wish they'd condemn the apartments at the Willowbend/S Post Oak intersection, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. We have also noticed quite a few younger couples moving into the area, with several moving into our little circle. I think the area will continue to improve as the real estate is still very affordable (when compared to inner loop and some nicer parts of Meyerland) and a lot of the houses are primed to be remodeled (or in some cases razed and rebuilt).

I will also plug Maplewood. My bro and sis' in law live there and the area they are in is fantastic. Schools are an issue though from what I've been told.

The commutes from Westbury are typically great for us. It takes me less than 10 minutes to get to the Galleria (non-rush hour traffic) and my wife can get to downtown in 20 minutes or less, barring any major traffic issues.

I'm happy to answer any questions about the area.

I wasn't aware any of Westbury was zoned to Bellaire until I read your post.

Looking at the map, it is a very small pocket indeed.

westbury's always been the ghetto. it's an incorrect assumption for young couples moving into the area to think for one second that they can produce more kids than the people living in apartments. your dilution theory is flawed. gay couples moving into the area are not concerned with schools. yes, they spend all their disposable income on renovating their homes, but they could care less about schools. geez.

The city's best chance at that came about 8-10 years ago when a little boy drowned at the complex's pool and it was found to be negligence by the complex. The complex managed to fight it, mostly by promising to clean up. They did that by painting the outside units, to have an appearance of cleaning up its act. Nothing really changed about it though, and the city's done nothing since then to fight the complex.

That happened when Pin Oak Middle School was built. Parkwest tried to petition the city to allow their area to be part of Bellaire's zoning, but only that neighborhood was allowed. There was a bigwig city official that lived in that area at the time who had kids getting ready to go to high school in a few years; the rumor always was he got the zoning changed for his neighborhood. Westbury High doesn't want the Parkwest area to break away, mostly because of the positive impact the area has on the TAAS/TAKS scores and the money the tax dollars generate.
