Is there any way of HCTRA tracking down the owner of a car with temp. license plates if they run through an ez tag only lane?

umm.. a friend wants to know.

that's what the finance guy was telling me.. tamp plates aren't tied to me.. just wanted to make sure.

The new temporary plates that have a long string of numbers on them are registered to your name and address if I remember correctly. When you register your new EZ Tag, you can click a box for Temporary Tags. Personally, I wouldn't try to run the tolls without an EZ Tag, as I have heard horror stories of huge toll bills and fines.

looking at my old temp tag, anything that ties you name to it is too small to be caught by the camera... maybe thats changed since 2 years ago, but during that time the beltway was my own personal Talladega hotlap.

Jack Klompus nailed it. the new thing now and what i had on my truck when i got it in august was a string of letters instead of the date. if that is the case then it is registered to the person and their address.

all my tag has is a date.. and some real fine print that no doubt the camera won't pick up.

When i went through it this morning, the red warning light didn't even go off..

Oh well, screw em, because I called them last week to see if I can get my new one mailed to me so I'd have it in time when i got my new car, but she said they can't issue a sticker unless they have a license plate number.

yeah, id just keep gassin' it extra hard when blowing through the EZ's

If you white line through the tag station on a motorcycle, you don't set off the cameras.

even if the camera doesn't read the small print on the paper tag, the camera may be flagging you if it isn't reading the license plate it's expecting to see? i dunno if it's that complex

not worth it to me, i'd just go in online and check the temp tag box.

I asked the lady on the phone to do this as well.. I had the 'ez plate' as it's called on my rental. but she said i can't put that on a permanent car. I have to have the license plate number.

If the temp plate is only bolted in at the top, it will be flying up at high speeds and probably can't even be seen by the camera.

You'd be surprised. Most cars have a nice little slip stream behind them so there really isn't too much wind down there by the license plate.

STS, there's no way a camera could pick up tiny text like that at highway speeds, even if it were a human looking at it.

Maybe not the toll tag cameras, because I have no clue what their settings/resolution is, but you can take a picture of a baseball that has just been hit and read the fine print and count the seams if you shoot it right.

i'm not saying it can - i'm saying that i don't know if the camera flags you by default if it doesn't register the plate that's supposed to match your EZ tag.

It does. I changed my license plate at one point and didn't let the EZ Tag people know about it, and a couple of weeks later I got a violation in the mail saying my license plate did not match up with the EZ Tag. I called them, and they let me off with a warning, but said you have to keep them updated if you change your plates.
