i dont know if the front license plate on my truck was stolen in austin or if it just fell off somehow but over the weekend i lost my front plate and the black frame it was in. anyone know if there is an easy, hassle free way to get a duplicate of the one lost or do i have to order a new set? is it that big of a deal to drive around without one? seems like i see people driving around without front plates from time to time but maybe they are out-of-staters. all i see online is special plates ordering info.

i think you need a new set. you probably won't get pulled over for it, but if you do get pulled over for something else (speeding/running a light etc) you would likely get the missing license citation on top of it. although, i don't think its too difficult to dismiss.

cool...looks like i just have to pay a visit to a county tax office and fill out a form to order replacement plates.

Screw replacing it. I don't run front plates on either of my vehicles. You'll get better fuel mileage, it won't be there to look like an eyesore, and chances are you won't get pulled over/ticketed for it. I've been pulled over several times by Walker Texas Ranger wannabes and none of them have ever said ANYTHING about it (knock on wood).

it's an excellent way to give an officer a reason to stop you...particularly if you happen to be out at night. happened to me on the way home from the bar once...fortunately on a very rare occasion in which i wasn't drinking.

probably an unlikely scenario, but i can tell you first hand that it can happen.

yea, i'd like to see the empirical results that substantiate that claim (as far as practical measurability)...or, hell, even a bull**** answer that could reasonably make sense. i'm guessing neither exist.

This might be a good time to up grade to the Aggie plates!

Well if your license plate restricts the air intake to the motor it could affect fuel mileage.

Seems like those ricer cars (and maybe some Porsches) have intakes on the bottom grill that might be blocked by a license plate.

Those arent intakes, those are intercoolers...
