I got an awesome deal from Houston Diamond outlet. I highly reccomend staying away from the retailers. You'll get twice the carat for the same price.

If you can pay cash then go to a wholesale jeweler. You will pay at least half if not less. Go to Robbin Bros first to get an idea of what you want. Don't hesitate to ask a lot of questions. As for the wholeseller, continue asking around and I'm sure a buddy can recommend a good one.

As a recent purchaser, I would say the method told to me by my wholesaler was excellent. He said to go to those big chains (i.e. robbins bro / zales/ jareds) and let them educate you and get a feel for their prices. Then check the internet sites (i.e. bluenile.com) then come to me and we will find you one that beats all of these prices. You can't go wrong.

Sam Solomon at Diamond World in the Jewelry building on Richmond. There are several good wholesalers there that all sell to the brick & mortar places. Don't go to Klein's, and certainly don't go to a place in the mall.

I see 6222 Richmond is filled with diamond wholesalers. Do y'all know of any specific people that are good to do business with here. I've been dealing with a wholesaler in Austin that turned out to be very flakey and not someone I wanted to hand over 4 months income to.

Richmond is where i got mine at... ill have to find the card of the guy. i had an inside hook-up to get me in that building.

My whole seller is Sam Marabella. He is a dallas guy who is slowly getting out of the trade and into fine art.

WhiteFlash was a very good experience for me as well. You can check out their website beforehand to see their inventory and ask them to have those diamonds on hand when you go in.

Go to the library and check out the book "How to buy a diamond". Or you can buy it, whichever.

It is from the idea of buying diamonds for investment (or for rings, since that is what most people do). Took me about 4 hours to finish it. Can figure out most things you need to know and after that, laugh at most commercial jewelers (jareds, mall stores, etc).

I found the design I wanted at Robbin Bros and he made it for me, saving me over $1,000. Same design and quality. Let me know if u need more info.

Diamonds are a waste of money. Buy CZ.

Jonathan's Fine Jewelers (and Jay Freedman who is there) is recommended often on TexAgs and is in that building. My wife and I have used them several times. The good is they seem to do good work and the prices seem very good. The bad is it took them awhile to do some service work we needed on my wife's ring (longer than their estimate) and it's occasionally a PITA to reach him on the phone. However, these were pretty small dollar services and I am guessing he gives more attention to bigger ticket items like new engagement rings. Even with this negative, we keep going back because we trust them and the price seems right.
