I went to my first 'late night' (9:00 pm or later) movie there in years. That place has definitely turned into the hood. I shouldn't be, but I'm always amazed about how clueless some people are concerning how to behave in a theater. I guess I need to start going to the Silverado or Cypress Cinemark if I ever want to do a late movie in that part of town.

I don't know what hour the hood moves in, but the 7:00 movie I'd been to there recently was relatively 'normal'.

Majority of theatres become the hood or babysitter late at night.

the other night i caught a flick at the jacinto city cinemark. never had a problem there before, but this time i was surrounded by a bunch of little punks and their girlfriends. munching, talking, laughing through the first 20 minutes.

i turned around a couple of times and they'd shut up, and slowly crank the volume back up. fortunately, they left to go crash another movie

btw, i saw Bringing Down the House at that willowbrook AMC and it was hilarious. a lot of "audience involvement" and the first time i enjoyed it. especially when queen latifah and the WASP fight in the bathroom

yeah the whole Willowbrook AMC is a big ghetto high school fishbowl, same with that Bernies sprots bar, and even BW3 on a fight night.

then again the only theater i really go to now is going out of my way to hit up the edwards cinema down by 59 since they have valet parking.

If you're in that area, you need to go to the Movie Tavern at 249 and Grant. Especially since no minors are allowed in after 9pm.

Yeah, that Movie Tavern is one of the best local places to catch a flick.

I especially like to go to the Sunday morning shows, as the place is empty for the most part until the God Squad shows up around noon.

Willowbrook Mall is the same way. It was number two on the least safest mall list this year.

Watch your stuff there; they have a huge problem of vehicles being broke into in that parking lot as well as the mall lot

we go to BW3 quite a bit, but always park up close...it is getting shadier each time we go.

already gotten my car stolen at Dunvale AMC, not lookin to get it done at Willowbrook next.

I don't even go around there anymore if I can help it.

Those parking lots have always had trouble. I got my truck stolen in the mall parking lot while working. It was stolen in broad daylight one row away from the building. This was back in '98. Also had my truck stolen from Jones and 249 at the 24 hr fitness... (also during the day) Never been as safe of an area as people made it out to be.

Willowbrook is GONE. Went to the mall on Sunday at noon to visit the Apple store. The mall was wall to wall trash. I left and drove over to Memorial City.
That area has turned, it is heading down the same path as Gunspoint. Sad.
Try Silverado in Tomball or Cinemark Cypress. Been to late night events at both and felt safe.

my old roommate's dad just got hsi truck broken into and everything stolen out of it while at that silverado movie theater and the cops said he was the 2nd one of the night and there have been several breka ins there.

Willowbrook mall/AMC took a dump early 2000's. It's unfortunate that place has fallen apart.

Because anything east of Beltway 8 off 249 has gone to sheot. Also up Bammel N Houston..

We went to Willowbrook AMC today to catch a 1:45 movie and had no problems.

The Movie Tavern there...I have had horrible service and last movie some lady kept answering her cell phone that her kid kept calling on. I have to say, had much better service and no problems at West Oak then we have had at Willowbrook Movie Tavern, although walking out to the car was definitely more scarier.

I have enjoyed the Silverado. Also, you might as well go on to the Woodlands at night.

you should just skip the group of scary people and just find the semi scary one on the corner who has the bootlegs of the current movies and you can just watch them @ home.

The Willowbrook AMC isn't THAT bad, but jeez, there are always a million kids there breaking the city of Houston curfew every night. The city could make a boatload of money sending their parents tickets.

I don't mind the kiddo's with a more inner city flavor. They almost HAVE to come to the AMC, because it is the closest place to the inside the beltway8 crowd to go that is remotely safe after dark, and it is also not yet a dump like many older places. I just would appreciate it if they leave some of less savory aspects of some inner city culture behind (loud ass music and obnoxious behavior, among some). Granted, a few years back, one of our Aggie football players got shot 3 times in the AMC parking lot, but for the most part, Willowbrook is still not THAT bad. It isn't a run down area, it is just the closest "nicer" area to hang out for a lot of these kids with a mall, theatre, and lots of restaurants. It isn't anything like East Houston, or the 5th ward...

On the other hand, I was talking to a guy that got robbed at gunpoint at Willowbrook a few months ago. Guy watched him withdraw from an ATM, and followed him to the parking lot.

I do think they should issue the theatre staff tazers, and they should legally be allowed to tazer anyone having conversation while a movie is playing...or throw them out of the theatre.

Willowcrook is pretty rough. Most people avoid the area.

I used to go to the Beltway 8 and Westheimer Cinemark starting in 99.

It was relatively clean and nice then.

Over the years, I watched it become the haven of unmotivated surly teen staff, funky smell, sticky floor, unsuperivised idiot teens, phone-talkin, baby-bringin-at-11:00pm-R-Rated-crying-but-parents-dont-leavenist place I've ever been.

It was razed after a murder and three rapes in the parking lot.

Good riddance to a once nice theater that management and idiots let slide into a pit of selfish low class idiocy.

I'm sure your points are valid, but it was razed due to the developer/owner losing money and his desire to construct office space in the existing property. To say it was razed due to murders and rape would be indirect at best.

I'm aware of the owner's position.

I'm sure the free-for-all environment made the money concerns and motivations to which you are referring more pronounced, contributing to the decision.


The property sucked under its current management when it became doomed.

I had the same thing happen to me at the Cy-Fair college in 2003. Parked my truck, went to my only class for the day and was back out within an hour and my truck was gone. 02 Dodge with custome 20's, billit grill and custome CD player/speakers. Inside was cleaned out including shirts and shoes I had to go work out afterwards. They left the truck stranded by Almeda mall on spares like yours.

With the insurance money I got I decided to put big tires on it instead because the people who steel don't find redneck things to cool.

And yeah Willowbrook as a whole sucks. Best mall and movie area on the Northside is the Woodlands by far.

yeah cosc, my insurance paid for 4 new wheels/tires, got every scratch and dent taken out at the body shop, new alarm, new system ... basically brought it back to better than it was

I tried explaining to the insurance people that my truck used to have leather seats and was a 4x4 and the thieves must have switched it out but they didn’t fall for it.
