How long do you want to ignore this user?
So I lied about the last thread being my last question. Husband's mother remembers fairfield being a nice place to live and is now directing us there.

I said we didn't have to ask you guys, but they wanted me to so I'm reassured.

Pro's and Cons?

Sorry again for all the threads. Hopefully we'll move in soon and I can move on to good places to eat. Oh yeah, my friends want to know where they should eat if they'll be in the 290/1960 intersection area next week? Is there anything out there?

Fairfield is huge, and way out to Mason Road. I think they have like 7 fitness centers there.

As long as your looking that far out, have you looked at Cypress Creek Lakes? Just south of 290 on Fry Rd., across from Bridgeland. Prices are a lot cheaper than Bridgeland, Meritage and Brighton build in there. Close to the new HS and elementary.

I thought you wanted to stay close to Willowbrook. You're creeping further and further away.

What's your price range?

My family is giving me a headache with their opinions on where we should live. lol Fairfield is where they're saying their friends are recommending. All of who are in their 60s.

I went from enjoying the idea of buying a new house to wanting it all to end. if we don't do fairfield, we'll go back to one of our previous choices. No new subdivisions. I'm done or at least need time to let my head quit spinning.

Fairfield looks really nice from 290, but thats all I can tell you. You'd be close to the outlet malls as well, if that matters.

Traffic on 290 is not bad by the time you get that far out, but if you have to commute into Houston then be prepared for an hour (on a good day) commute.

There are plenty of restaurants at the area you are talking about. 290 and Fry Rd/Spring Cypress on the SE corner has a TGI Fridays, Lubys, movie theater, and a ton of fast food joints. I think the Texas Roadhouse is on the other side of 290 (I know there is one up there I just forget exactly what exit it is on). You shouldn't have a hard time finding anywhere to eat there, but they are all chains. I dont think there are really any one-of restaurants in that area. Although there is a BBQ joint along that stretch of 290 (on the east side) that always looks to be doing some nice business.
There is a bit of stuff at the exit for 1960 as well. The roadhouse might be there. Its one of those two exits

Fairfield is nice. I have a co-worker that lives out there that was trying to sell her house. Put on hold by all of the construction with the outlet mall and some other buildings. The neighborhoods are nice out there, doesn't seem like Houston. Her HOA fees are up there, but that's expected in that type of community neighborhood. In the past couple of years lots of businesses, retail, restaurants have been added close by. I wouldn't mind living out there if traffic wasn't so bad to and from. Close to College Station though!

Fairfield is a very nice, and continuing to grow, community.

It has two excellent elementary schools and will feed into the new Cy-Ranch High School opening this August.

The drive in takes a while, but a Park n Ride is now at Spring Cypress which can cut down the drive time into downtown.

Most people who live in Fairfield only move into other parts or out of the Houston area completely. I rarely find someone who moved out of Fairfield b/c of the community itself or its location from work.

RE: Food at 1960/290 -- A Chuy's just went in that many people seem to enjoy (I haven't been there yet but am planning to go next week.)This is Mexican food. Johnny Carinos is also right there -- my preference for "country Italian."

I think we're putting an offer down for one tomorrow. Thanks for the input! Turns out my husband has old high school friends in the neighborhood, so they were very helpful as well.

If you have the financial ability Bridgeland is a cut above everything on the NW side. If you are looking to keep price down Fairfield is the best choice.

How can you make such a statement about a community that is not even 1/4th built out yet and the elementary school (from what I've found) is not even open yet?

Fourkids - if you're husband will be commuting to Willowbrook, there are a lot of areas of 249 that are much closer than Fairfield.

Even some older areas (Norchester - Grant & Jones Rd, Lakewood) and newer areas between 249 and 290 that have good communities and homes.

fourkids...thats still a pretty long commute from fairfield to willowcrook. If you take backroads i say 30 minutes. There are very nice neighborhoods off of 249, similar to Fairfield

As a Fairfield resident I love the community. The HOA fee's are 900 a year, so a little pricey. However there is a very nice athletic complex with a large weight room and indoor basketball court (also used for Volleyball games). Lots of parks and pools, and a third elementary and a middle school are planned to open in 2010 inside Fairfield.

At this point I like Bridgeland, but other than the great community space (lakes, trails, etc.) the actual homesites leave little to be desired IMO. The houses are RIGHT next to the street it seems with tiney little front yards. It makes the neighborhood feel cramped when you drive down an interior street. I like the public areas, but the homesites are cramped together.
