Don't know anything about Wolfe Elementary, sorry. The only thing I know was that some politician is threatening to tear it down....

I went to Wolfe.

Whats wrong with Wolfe? Its a recognized School. Building is a little older (1969), but the staff and facilities are very good.

Its nestled in a small nook near Barkers Landing and Fleetwood North. I used to ride my bike to school.

Briar Hills maybe a good neighborhood to look at, I lived there till I was 9. Only problem is that its HISD.

Thanks for all of the info, glad to know there are no "major" issues with Nottingham. Please keep the info coming on any west Houston neighborhoods. Anyone know anything about Briarmeadow?

Briarmeadow is HISD obvioulsy. The neighborhood itself is nice but it's surrounded by some shady crap.

Easier commute to the galleria obviously.

We heard very good things about Wolfe Elementary when we were considering school options two years ago, but decided to go the private route.

I was all for saving the dough with what we were hearing about Wolfe, but guess who won that debate...

What about the Nottingham club that you can join? Anyone on here a member? Just a private pool, or is there more to it?

Nottingham has two different Homeowners association (2 different builders originally).

Nott 1-3 (streets closest to Memorial) - the club is part of their homeowners association dues, residents are automatic members. This is new as of a year or two ago. the club needed money to refurbish some infrastructure and tying it tot he homeowners assoc. insured its solvency.

Nott 4-5 (streets closest to I10) - club is not part of their dues, but residents are allowed to join the club, just like other people. Two years ago they voted to not associated their dues to the club. Some of the original owners on both sides still have some bad blood between the other assoc. from some things that happened 30 yrs ago. Pretty intresting stories.

The Club at Kirkwood and Memorial is open to anyone that pays the dues.

You can check out the Nottingham Forest Club at www.nfclub.com.

We used to live across the street. They have an olympic-size pool, sport courts, several tennis courts, high dive/slide, large play area and access to the Bayou (biking trails).

Well worth the money. Also, I recommend joining the mothers club if you have little kids. They sponsor events like Snow Day, Easter Egg hunts, etc.

cmac98 -

The Nottingham Forest club is the one I was referencing. We've heard it is nice and worth joining. We are looking at moving into the area and are trying to find out all we can about it. My wife is a stay-at-home mom with our two girls (3yrs and 10mo) so she is definitely interested in any mom's group there might be as well as the amount of young families moving into Nottingham Forest (and surrounding). Does it seem to be getting "younger" in there? We are both class of '99 so are probably looking at the same thing you are. Any insight on NF livng would be great!

The neighborhood is packed with kids and getting younger. I am class of '98 and we were a few years younger than most of our neighbors. Although most of their children were elementary and high school(ie. babysitters), there are a lot of families with younger kids moving into the neighborhood. The moms group is key and they have several play dates a week as well as special events throughout the year. Well worth living in that area. In fact, several of our neighbors grew up in the neighborhood and have moved back with their families--says a lot about the location.

I highly recommend living in the immediate Nottingham neighborhood. What we found particularly attractive is that there are no main cross streets through the neighborhood which keeps the transients at bay. People are in the subdivision for a reason and the lack of traffic through the neighborhood cuts crime down significantly. Also, the further away you live from Memorial and Dairy-Ashford, the better.

cmac, what do you think of Nottingham vs Nottingham West?

wbr...I have never heard of the Nottingham west of Kirkwood referred to as Nottingham West. I don't think there is much of a difference between the two other than the neighborhoods on the south of Memorial are better, IMO, in terms of less crime, value (although slightly) and overall general appearance & feel. I've always heard the neighborhoods west of Kirkwood referred to as Nottingham and the neighborhoods east of Kirkwood as Wilchester. Overall, you have great schools, great local eating establishments, great churches, and, as soon as I-10 is complete, a great transportation corridor.

Nottingham West is west of Kirkwood and is its own Homwowners association. Slightly less expensive, due to being slightly smaller houses (usually attached garages) and closer to apartments. Nottingham West is zoned to wilchester elementary and the apartments by them go to another elementary.

Nottingham West gets you into the better schools without the cost of crossing Kirkwood to Nottingham, which is slightly more expensive.

Some friends bought in Nottingham West, but moved in a Year to Nottingham (our subdivision)b/c they were worried the Wilchester elementary may rezone the cutoff west to Kirkwood sending their kids to the elementary with the apartments. Something to think about, but I have not heard they are moving the boundry.

So Nottingham West is west of Kirkwood and NORTH of Memorial. I lived in Nottingham 8 (I believe) and the kids in our neighborhood attended Meadowwood Elementary. We were south of Memorial. So, I wouldn't classify all Nottingham subdivisions west of Memorial as Nottingham West. The pricepoint for most homes south of Memorial tends to be higher than the Nottingham's north of Memorial, IMO.

There are plenty of Nottingham homeowners associations. But "Nottingham WEST" is its own hownowners association and seperated as I described before. The other person was asking about Nottingham WEST vs Nottingham. There is a difference between the two. Please see "WEST" website

Nottingham WEST: From their website. http://www.nottinghamwest.org/

Location, Location, Location
Nottingham West is located west of Kirkwood between Memorial Drive and the Katy Freeway. You are just minutes away from the city's best restaurants, shopping, and downtown.
