I tried the chicken at Frenchy's on I-10/Waco - no thanks. I still say my Mom makes the best fried chicken but for this topic I'll go with Popeye's (not to mention their red beans and rice and cole slaw) - YUM!

The Stripes at Grand Parkway/Birnam Woods had some amazing fried chicken this past Friday. I'd never seen it there before and grabbed a piece fresh off the fryer. It was damn good.

Pollo Campero in Washington was really good. The rest of the locations I have been to suck.

Best Korean fried chicken is BBQ Chicken in Katy (https://www.houstonbbqchicken.com/). It's a popular chain restaurant from Korea that's opening locations in the States.

I like ToreOre in the HMart on Blalock for Korean. Order just like this, one regular bird and one Korean bird.

Also not mentioned yet is Al Aseel -- Palestinian chicken place on Richmond.

It will make you consider conversion.

Neither. It was that good. Very surprising.

To honor this thread, went to Zydeco for lunch. Damn solid bird. And like always, great sides and cornbread.

Zydeco fried chicken is tip-top. One of the best lunch spots in downtown, especially for out-of-towners. Actually has a small parking lot in back.

Be prepared for food coma afterwards,

If there was another thigh (which I would have hammered), then I'd be in food coma land. So far, doing okay.

Zydeco mashed potato recipe is 1lb potatoes + 1lb of butter.

Probably the best crawfish / shrimp po-boy in town. Chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish ettoufe, fried pork chops are all good too.

Speaking of chicken:

Hipster Wings

I expect this place to last 6 months tops. Some things just do not need or lend themselves to be dandied up for the hipster d-bag crowd.

Things I never hear:

"Man, I love wings, but I sure wish there was more eclectic art on the wall"

"Y'all want to meet to watch the game? There's this super chic wing spot in Montrose that has locally-sourced sustainable wing sauces and sooo many different kinds of aeoli. Someone bring a laptop because they don't actually show sports in there."

"We can either go and watch with other A&M fans at B-Dubs or Pluckers, or we can hang with a bunch of fun-employed groomed dudes in kimonos and Elvis Costello hats, and discuss the tasting notes of the dry rubs at this other place."

"I liked these wings before they were cool"

Owned by the Jus Mac folks and its being housed in their recently closed cajun joint?! Doesn't exactly look like a recipe for success right now.

My bet is a dozen will cost around $25 and will be mediocre. I'll stick with the PBJ wings at Hay a block away when I want my hipster wings fix where I can also drink 250 beers.
