Whitewater?

Back when I was a kid there was a water themed park on 20 (I believe) in Grand Prarie. I think it was called Whitewater something or other. I think in the late 80s or so it closed down and was converted to more of a fun sphere place with go carts and putt putt and such. Is that place still there?

For some reason last night I was thinking of a lock-in that I went to in middle school that we went to that place. I remember it having a top notch putt putt course. We also had one at Fun Sphere next to Wet & Wild one year. I was sadly informed last night that Fun Sphere is no longer.

What about Sesame Place? I think it was only open for a few years in the early 80s. Somewhere over in the mid-cities?

I remember the Whitewater but not the fun sphere. I think there is a House of Wax or something over there now.

Does anyone remember Seven Seas near where the Ballpark and Six Flags is now?

I remember Whitewater in Grand Prarie and Garland pretty well and the Seven Seas barely.

They have completely covered all of the Whitewater in GP location and is now a vacant lot next to a new dealership. I think Six Flags bought and since they have WetnWild a couple of miles down the highway shut it down.

That place was fun during the summer time. I especially the tall slide that sent you straight down into the water.

I also like the slides around the pirate ship.

The only things I remember of the Seven Seas was watching the fish shows. I was probably less than 5 at the time.

Sesame Place was on 183 where the Walmart is. Didn't someone die at Whitewater.

Sesame Place still exists in other places, I believe. I think I saw an ad for one in PA and maybe somewhere else too...

I remember Seven Seas in Arlington... the times my folks took me there, I always wanted to go to Six Flags (which was right next door) instead.

I believe the masted ship that was part of Seven Seas was left on the property that became the hotel next to old Arlington Stadium. Don't know if the ship is still there though.

Whitewater was the original water park in the mid-cities prior to Wet and Wild, what is now the water park across from Six Flags. Although it wasn't open very long (5-6 years or so) I liked it better than the W&W in Arlington -- though I only went there a couple of times. I probably went to WW about 8-10 times.

It was located right at i-30 and Beltline in GP.

The Sesame Place was on Esters right off of 183 in Irving. I had several friends that worked there in high school. It only lasted about as long as WW.

Tis a shame. I recall Whitewhatever having a great putt putt course after it had been shut down from being a Waterpark and was just for go carts and such.

Yep, looks like it is just a dirt lot now.

Looks like Wet & Wild expanded their water park over the go cart tracks at Fun Sphere. All that is left is the putt putt course (the NE corner of the park next to parking lot). If you look closely, next to the putt putt is a yellow, red and green slide. That's where the rest of Fun Sphere used to be.

So all of this being said, anyone know of any top notch miniature golf courses in DFW? Every now and then its nice to take a date and manage to break 80 on a golf course (even if it is with rubber clad putter).

Whitewater closed in the late 80's. Then some other company bought the location and created a "Fun Sphere" type place that only lasted (I think) one season. Then it closed and sat vacant for several years. Grand Prairie Ford eventually bought the lot, and now it is a car dealership. The Palace of Wax (formerly Wax Museum, before it burned) is right down the road.

Wet 'n Wild was Wet 'n Wild up until 1997. Six Flags bought it in 1996 and kept the name for one year before changing it to Hurricane Harbor. The Fun Sphere that was attached to Wet 'n Wild was only open for 3-4 years, from 1991-1994 I believe, before they shut it down. I was a LG at W&W/HH in 1996 and 1997.

Unless the synaptic junctions fail me Whitewater closed after a child was thrown from a ride and suffered brain damage.

Sesame Place was on 183 in Irving where there is a SuperWalmart now. My daughters loved that place much more than Six Flags.

No one died at Whitewater. The park wasn't doing well with the competition from Wet N Wild and shut down. All the slides were cleared and it reopened as a crappy amusement park. (Great idea. We can't compete with Wet N Wild. Let's try and compete with Six Flags.)

It wasn't doing well and then someone died on one of their roller coasters. Park shut down immediately after that and never reopened.

Palace of Wax was there long before. It's further down the road.

i grew up over of I30 and NW 19th street, just down the road from whitewater(is that what it was called?). if i remember correctly someone died there. but i was just a kid when that place closed. didn't there used to be an indoor amusement park over there by the palace of wax that used to always flood?

I think they put an indoor amusement thing there in the old Fire Museum, but it didn't last very long. It is the white building that is across the road and to the north of GP Ford and the Palace of Wax.

I ran into Anthony Kedus and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the top of the Derstuka at Hurricane Harbor. They had done a concert the night before in Dallas with Snoop Dogg. I talked to them for about 5 minutes while we stood in line. It was pretty cool.

didn't they take that rocket off because the door flap closed on someone's head?

AC is right. No one died at WW, but at the park that came of it. I had forgotten about that, as I never would have thought of going to that park for rides.

They took the rocket thing off of Der Stuka because they were having problems with the alignment of the slide and the base of the rocket. People were scraping their backs really badly when the trapdoor opened.
