I haven't been on TA in about 2 weeks. Oktoberfest was amazing, but a hell of a lot of work.

Well, you're going to get your wish OlJock. Dems will control every state elected position in the state. Governor, Lt. Gov, Attorney General, Comptroller etc.

There isn't a state in this nation completely run by democrats that isn't bleeding people fleeing from disasters.

Hey, I wanted Land and Ag to stay red!

MAGA is a cancer that needed to be cut out. That will be painful. I really hope the GOP can toss those illeberial RINOs (the real RINOs) and come back. Time will tell.

He didn't. About 1 million Texans did. Looking at the results a crap ton of republicans stayed home and a lot of independents went to the polls.

Every time one side wins they think the entire country wanted everything they believe in. When in fact about 52% of the country wanted it. Then throw in the fact you started new war that had taxed every American and more importantly pissed off the 52% that did vote for you.

It really was that simple. Stay the hell out of Iran and make Israel deal with their own part of the world.

This is a direct reflection on the President. I kinda feel sorry for Greg Abbott because none of this was about him. One person is responsible for this economy and why diesel is still over $6/gallon. One person decided to wage a war of choice in Middle East, and wage a trade war on...(checks notes) everyone in the world. Republicans in Congress chose to bend the knee rather than exercise their oversight and power as an equal branch of government. This was a market correction. Reassuring that the leader of the Republican party has let everyone know, though, it's not his fault

I'm no Trump fan, but he had nothing to do with me voting against Abbott. It had everything to do with Abbott's quixotic assault on public schools.

But overall, I think you're right.

Again show me where democratic policies do everything that these people want? Under every Democratic president energy prices are higher because Democrats have no clue how the energy business works. High cost of living and taxes are rampant in any Democratic run state. People vote based on emotion not policy. 18-29 years olds have been getting spoon fed so that want to see that continue.

They don't. They are just different. We tend to vote like clothing styles change in this country - ready for the next style. Except for Reagan-to-Bush, we have switched parties after every president since WWII (I'm excluding JFK-LBJ since I consider LBJ's term a JFK continuation). The only question is do you get one term or two before we want a new style. And Bush ended up a one-termer; just took a bit longer to want the new style that time.

People make almost all of their decisions based on emotion. This isn't unique to voting.

Midterm elections almost always go against the incumbent party that won the previous election based on making a bunch of promises they couldn't deliver. This happens pretty much every single time. This is the same phenomenon but just a more extreme example for several obvious reasons.

"Blame the stupid voters" has never been a winning strategy for either party and is a recipe for further ass kickings.

Yet, Texas by staying with the incumbents over the last 30 years has become the most powerful state when it comes to growth and business. While anything run by democrats over the last 30 years has seen exodus, high cost of living and high taxes. Why on Earth would people vote for the policies that have run states and even the country into the ground( Biden immigration, Obamacare)

Because - getting back to the emotional side of things - you have people who think Paxton is a scumbag, Talarico doesn't really want to cut off kids' genitals, and Abbott is a shill for POTUS.

Like you already said, people are making emotional decisions about who to vote for. Some prevailing emotions out there right now are fear, uncertainty, frustration, and disappointment.

These incumbents who have been in charge for 30 years had tons of opportunity to make people feel hopeful and positive and they clearly failed to do so.

They didn't have to make people feel anything. Just look at the facts of what Texas became versus states with Democratic policies. It is simple.

Simple maybe. But obviously ineffective.

As you yourself said on this thread, people vote their emotions.

Not sure if anything would've overcome the overwhelming sentiment. The buttons the GOP tried to push didn't land. Nothing drives emotions like the economy. And hard to run on "the economy sucks" when you're in charge (and in Texas when you have been in charge for a really long time).

The thing is that the economy doesn't suck in Texas in relation to democratic states. People are sheep if they vote based on emotion. Democratic policies destroy the Texas economy. Democratic positions don't attract companies, and they destroy the energy business
