I've been going to Surfside since the 80s.

I've always taken 45 thru downtown Houston and then the 288 exit towards Lake Jackson etc. Why? Well, if remember the folding Texas maps, you would understand.
Today's online maps show several routes that are approximately the same travel time, but not being on the interstate and some going thru towns (traffic lights) etc.

So the question, is there a better route than 45 that you use and recommend?

Regardless of the route, tomorrow I will have my toes in the sand and my butt in the water.

No. I45 -> 288 is going to be the fastest route most of the time.

Traffic may dictate that you take beltway 8 around Houston.

Fire up Google Maps or Waze when you're leaving the house and it'll give you the fastest options.

Leave it open as you drive and it'll update based on traffic conditions, etc.

You can also catch the Hardy Toll Road in The Woodlands which will take you to 59S which leads to 288S.
