Can someone give me a run down on the following lakes: Lewisville, Grapevine, and Ray Hubbard. I am visiting family in north Dallas July 4 weekend and would like to take the boat out. Family and toddlers. My thought is to go Sunday morning after all the party people are finished. Which option would be best?

Lake Lewisville would be the last place I'd take my family on a boat during a holiday weekend.

Keep your head on a swivel. Can't imagine a more dangerous time to be o many of those lakes esp Lewisville w their party cove and drunk boaters.

The danger of Lake Lewisville is overrated, in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't be caught swimming in it over any summer weekend though. It won't be fun and wide open next weekend from a boating perspective - that's for sure.

The party scene doesn't start until the afternoon, how early are you headed out? Its a massive lake, plenty of areas that are fine, just be mindful of the morons on jet skis if you are pulling kids behind the boat. But that's pretty much every lake.

Ray Hubbard is a pretty safe bet as I think it's pretty full. Can put in multiple places and not a crazy far ride anywhere. Can park it at the Harbor (Rockwall) and grab lunch.

Grapevine is always a good lake but I wouldnt be on it for the 4th unless I had a slip at a marina

Hubbard is pretty low key. The harbor is great for lunch (bbq, Mexican, Italian, ice cream, etc). We usually order Gloria's and someone will run up and grab it and bring it back to the boat…with to-go margaritas of course!
